Optic atrophy/neuropathy

Had posted this in health but no joy so trying my luck here! Basically I had a routine eye test last year and was told I had optic neuropathy. Both discs were observed to be thin/pale and I had a very slight visual field defect in one eye.
Was referred to opthalmology who sent me for more tests (currently awaiting results). Possible causes that were mentioned included: toxins, ischemic or MS, however MS/tumours were ruled out after an MRI. Does anyone else have a diagnosis and if so, what was the cause?

I've been told I have optic atrophy. I'm undergoing tests (MRI as I have a complex issue with my brain and a genetics test)

All the eye testing they've done has been clear aside from visual field, colour and Snellen / eye chart

I think I had this last year due to B12 deficiency and severe stress. My eyes hurt terribly and I couldn't put my glasses on for a whole month.

In the end I ate some lambs kidneys for B12 and the next morning I was okay again.

You might want to look into B12 deficiency and functional B12 deficiency.

I read the research papers on it and this condition can be caused by many many different things, so you night need to do a bit of detective work tbh. Good luck.

Thank you both so much for your replies. Have you had electrophysiology @TigerRag? Do you mind me asking what the brain issue you have is? If you'd prefer to PM that's fine. It's weird you say that about the vitamin deficiency @ItsPrettyGoodReally as I was folate deficient for about 3 years. Once I found out about the neuropathy I went on Google and found out that poor nutrition can be a cause. Got my bloods done which showed my folate was low, but it apparently had been low since I gave birth 3 years prior also. Did you have a diagnosis of atrophy or was it symptoms only?

I've had electrophysiology a few times. But I have Nystagmus which means my eyes shake which makes it hard for them to get a reading.

I have 2 arachnoid cysts and agenesis of the corpus callosum.

I'll keep the fingers crossed that your tests come back OK @TigerRag. It's very stressful when you don't know what's going on. I'm waiting my electrophysiology results and very nervous about it all. My issue could possibly be congenital too but only picked up by chance. But my consultant seems to think an event in the past few years has caused the damage.
