What can I do between highlight appointments

Is there is semi perm tint I can use to refresh everything? Hair looks meh

Following as I want to know too.

I get a root smudge and it lasts around 5months

If you do use anything not recommended by your hairdresser, make sure you tell them about it before your next appointment. I'd recommend asking your hairdresser for advice.

Basically the highlights are “smudged” at the roots so the grow out isn’t so obvious, stark or (in my case) greasy. Its made a huge difference to my hair!
