Do I need to renew my old red passport now we are out of the EU?

I have just been looking at booking our holiday and renewing passports. I've just realised my old red one is still in date and expires 31st Dec 2025! Can I still use it now we are out of European union?

You can still use your red passport

No it's still valid - mine is valid until 2028 and I'll be sorry to see it go.

I hope the Brexiteers are happy with their new blue ones - it's what they pined for!

Oh that's good news, saves me some money!

Yes, as others have said, it is absolutely fine to use.

One thing to be aware of is that it was previously possible to add on extra months when you renewed a passport. Your current passport now ceases to be valid 10 years from the date of issue. If you are using it in the latter half of 2025 then it is worth checking the issue date rather than the expiry date.

Have a lovely holiday.

Don't renew until you have to. I had to because mine expired and the blue one is the embodiment of disappointment and misery ☹️

Yeah it was issued 31st Dec 15 so expires 31st Dec 25. I completely read it wrong and thought it expired 25th December!
