How can I make ds feel confident and not put himself down .

He has autism and learning difficulties he's in year 4 working at year 1 level. He never used to know this but he's now awear of it. He's always putting himself down and saying how stupid he is. That he's thick . The most stupid in his class etc etc.

I have tried telling him he's not stupid and hes fantastic. I tell him he's good at drawering , skating , riding his bike and he's do kind to others. Everyone loves him etc . But he just keeps saying he's stupid over and over.

Any ideas how I could build his confidence , make him feel better about himself. Mentioning things about well known people who have had struggles /sen/autism etc does not help as he has no understanding of this it means nothing at all .

Are there any groups in your area for autistic kids? He could make new friends and some would be better at things or indeed worse at things than him so he could feel part of it all?
