Scarecrow ideas?

Where I live, there is an annual scarecrow competition. I am not artistic. I'm not full of creative ideas. I am pretty time poor and I don't give the project a massive budget.

I would love to win though 😂. Last year my entry theme was based around an outfit I found in a charity shop. I was totally outclassed by the current affairs/ political/celebrity themed ideas. I live near some imaginative and clever people and I'm asking for ideas to help me beat them into submission!

Has anyone had any brilliant ideas for such things? I don't have grass at the front of my house so I struggle to have anything to stake it into as one might expect for a scarecrow.

Can it stake into a big plant pot?

Ive seen a row of shops do this. Wonder if it’s the same thing!

The village I grew up in used to do this. I've seen scarecrows riding horses, up ladders cleaning windows, rescuing cats out of trees, falling down the well, sat on a bench enjoying a cuppa, a scarecrow family playing swingball, various superhero scarecrows. There was nothing in the rule-book to say they had to be staked into the ground - I think many of them were made with chicken wire so they could be free standing.

Hope that gives you some inspiration!

Oh that's a maybe, thank you. I'll have to be careful not to block my drive but it is a good idea. Last year I got a chair and had a seated scarecrow. It wasn't great if I'm honest.
I'll have a think if I have any pots large enough. It amazes me how much money you can start spending on these things when you start having ideas.... large pots at my local garden centre are mega money!!!

Chicken wire. You may well have changed the game here!!! I was more tied off clothing and stuffed straw. I don't recall what the head was. I'm really new to this. Thank you!

Lots of ideas on Pinterest.

Do you have a theme at all?

No given theme to work with. I think that may be part of my problem - "scarecrow" is the full brief!
