Feeling so ill, and going abroad on a hen do on Friday…

What the hell do I do?

I’ve spent the last couple of days coughing my guts up with a very dry, slightly mucusy cough - it feels like I have a frog in my throat. My lower chest feels pretty tight compared to usual. I also keep swinging from a raging temperature to being freezing cold, my wee is almost black (even though I’m trying to drink more) and my lower back in particular is killing me but everything aches.

A Covid test and pregnancy test have both been negative.

I’m waiting for a callback from 111 because I’m struggling to cope now but I’m scared they are going to say I can’t fly.

I’ve not told the hen party or Bride about this at this point in case I unnecessarily worry them, but even then I don’t know how I’m meant to go abroad when I feel like this, and be expected to partake in what will likely be heavy amounts of drinking. I only know the Bride and her Mum, with several other ladies coming. Would they even want me to join when we are expected to share beds too?

The other side of this is likely losing a large amount of money (I do have travel insurance but it’s a large villa booked in someone else’s name), I’ve also got my name on the collection for a Boots parcel past security!

Please can someone stop me panicking and advise if this is the sort of thing a GP would do? (Stop you flying)

no point going, infecting the entire bridal party if not the plane, having a terrible time because you are too ill to join in anyway, and risking being more ill because you've made yourself go. I would be well annoyed if you turned up to my hen do wrecked with infection. Never mind the GP, it's your own common sense here

StripedTomatoes · 30/05/2024 00:01

Why do you even still want to go if you're that ill? You're better off resting up at home. It's a shame you will miss out but it can't be helped. Hope you feel better soon.

TizerorFizz · 30/05/2024 00:03

@Sparrow91 unless there’s a miracle, it’s a no go isn’t it. It’s sad but you sound too ill. Don’t see why your insurance cannot pay up. You have a genuine loss.

Do you actually feel up to going? Tell the hen party now, you should be worried about yourself

TreacleMoon123 · 30/05/2024 00:06

Agree with pp. Unfortunately it sounds like you're too ill to go.
The last thing you or anyone else on the hen needs or wants is for you to end up very ill in hospital in a foreign country.
It's shit but your insurance should cover it.
Hope you feel better soon.

TwigTheWonderKid · 30/05/2024 00:54

I've got what you've got and there is no way I could go away and enjoy myself right now.

It would be really selfish to go and infect everyone you are with and potentially people on the plane too.

No idea if you'd be able to get your money back via insurance but you're not actually "losing" the money, you've just spent it and won't be benefitting from that, which is a different thing.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/05/2024 00:57

UTI? Which can get nasty quickly. You can’t go.

if you do, I hope you have travel insurance?

If you were my friend, I’d understand. Hope you feel better soon.

Sparrow91 · 30/05/2024 01:22

I don’t disagree with you all, I just worry that I’m really going to disappoint everyone and there will be a backlash. At the moment no I don’t feel well enough to go but I was so hoping that I’d feel better by Friday.

I’m currently in A&E after my 111 consult, so we’ll see what they say. They’ve instantly flagged my temperature when I was triaged so guess it’s a waiting game now.

You’re at A&E now and supposed to go on Friday?

It’s a clear no, my lovely. Your health comes first.

If there is a 'backlash' because you are ill then I'd say stuff them. Any normal person would be disappointed that you can't join them on the hen party but they wouldn't blame you.
It's just bad luck.
I hope you feel better soon. Don't forget to get whatever paperwork you need to claim on your insurance.

converseandjeans · 30/05/2024 01:37

I agree that it would be silly to go - you sound really ill, won't feel well enough to join in & could also pass it on to others.

I don't think others would want to catch an infection & would probably prefer you keep away.

TheShellBeach · 30/05/2024 01:47

Doctors can't stop you flying but surely you're not well enough to go anyway.

PoopingAllTheWay · 30/05/2024 01:57

Why are you worried about the holiday?

Could be a kidney infection or sepsis

Ring boots tomorrow and try and get the parcel is someone else's name

Even if its not anything serious, and you feel abit better, you could infect the whole bridal party. Why would you do that?

Tel12 · 30/05/2024 02:06

You need to tell the bride that you won't be able to make it. They won't thank you for dragging yourself there. Hope you feel better soon

Sparrow91 · 30/05/2024 02:06

Another update, I’ve been given iv antibiotics and fluids. They’ve taken more blood then I’ve ever seen before and I’ve had an ecg and chest xray too.

My ecg was abnormal so they’re redoing it in a moment, but they did say that with the IV I might feel a lot better much quicker and not to write off going away just yet.

They are checking for pyelonephritis and potentially a severe chest infection.

I totally agree on not worrying what they think, but I know it will cause an impact as things that were to be split between all of us such as taxis etc would increase. I think because I don’t know them I don’t know how they would react if I did pull out which is what scares me - classic people pleaser!

PoopingAllTheWay · 30/05/2024 02:24

Take pics of urself on a drip etc, incase someone doesn't believe you. And IF you feel the need to prove it. You should get discharge papers too

I would not be happy with you if you were sitting next to me on the plane, coughing all over me.

When is the wedding? You could infect everyone

PoopingAllTheWay · 30/05/2024 02:25

AND if you dont update your holiday insurance and your ill when your away, it will be classed as a ‘ongoing’ illness and you wont be covered
So if you do go, make sure you update your travel insurance and make sure they will cover you if you have to see a dr or go into hospital

Thank you, this is a very good point. I’ll call them when I’m back home after some sleep!

Wedding is July so thankfully some time away. I’ve taken a ton of pictures deliberately but hopefully I won’t need to send them!

From what you have described it sounds like a kidney infection and needs treating ASAP.

PoopingAllTheWay · 30/05/2024 13:10

How are u feeling OP?

PoopingAllTheWay · 30/05/2024 13:10

How are u feeling OP?

Thanks for thinking of me!

I’m still here, 16 hours in and with very little sleep. They are admitting because my blood pressure is consistently low, pulse rate high and the pain isn’t subsiding even with pain relief.

They have said I definitely have pyelonephritis, a CT has uncovered some tiny kidney stones, but my bloods have indicated a massive infection and they are concerned they are missing something.

I definitely won’t be going on the hen do and they all know now. They have been incredibly gracious and lovely about it too x

crumblingschools · 30/05/2024 15:23

@Sparrow91 sorry you are still ill and in hospital. I would hope in your situation that the hens are being gracious, you are in hospital not just changing your mind because you can't be bothered to go.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/05/2024 20:07

Get well soon and do t worry about your friends they’ll completely understand 💐

SuzySizzle · 30/05/2024 23:45

I'm glad everyone was ok about it but sorry to hear you are still ill. Hope you get well soon.

There will be more of a backlash if everyòme becomes ill. Dont go. Recover your insurance should cover your expenses
