Ears pierced & swimming advice

Dd had her ears pierced today and we were told about the 6 weeks of keeping them in. My question is how long do we wait for swimming? She has weekly lessons. They have said she is ok to keep them in as long as covered for first 6 weeks. Is there some sort of waterproof tape that you can buy?

We missed swimming lessons the week DD had hers pierced but shin e then she has swam every week at lessons and every fortnight at school - so sometimes twice per week. For lessons she doesn't need to cover the , for school we send some tape that was in our first aid box. It's a bit like masking tape

*since then

Thanks @ridingfreely Yes I was going to miss the next one which is Tuesday but some things you read online say to wait 6 weeks which seems abit excessive

I'll have a look online for some tape. Found some head wrap type thing but not sure how waterproof they are.

DD had hers pierced, we then went to a beach holiday and she was on a one week watersport trip to the Lake District.

We had a 2 week window before the beach holiday and we rinsed the ears with water as soon as she was out of the pool and she applied the cleaning solution a couple of times during the day.

She never had an issue.

I was told the chlorine would do them good, my dd had them done when she was six and went swimming about 2 days later.

BettyBoo246 · 29/05/2024 21:10

@Iwasjustasking so maybe next Tuesday lessons will be ok to go then.. I hate her missing lessons especially when we are going on holiday soon.

Did you cover them up with anything?

If the water is clean, then there shouldn't be a problem.

So you should be ok in a well-maintained pool (irrigate with saline solution afterwards as well). But I'd keep out of our shitty rivers and seas

LynetteScavo · 29/05/2024 21:32

Swimming in a clean pool should be fine- just carefully pat dry afterwards.

I would be more worried about school. Our school would make them remove the earrings daily.

BettyBoo246 · 29/05/2024 21:49

@strawberry2017 school have said she is ok to have them pierced as long as covered for PE and just small studs

For PE school will probably want them covered with mocroporous tape. This is why many people wait until the 6 weeks holiday.
