Nice things about where you live

People are so quick to notice when a place gets run down, to witness decay and desolation, but you don't often get to hear about nice places.
I just thought it might be nice to have a 'share the love's type thread, let folks know what's good!

I live on Vancouver Island, I love that the local schools have canoes for the students to use on the local waterways.
It's a lovely sunny day here, and I can hear the students singing as they paddle by.

I know it's isn't fancy, but I like it.
What's good about where you live?

It's hilly so you have great views almost everywhere. Coming from somewhere flat and house-hunting, I was continually exclaiming over the views from windows which bemused some of the vendors as views are ten-a-penny here and they were used to them.

BruceAndNosh · 29/05/2024 20:19

I loved Vancouver island when we visited even tho we only saw the south end!

I like where I live because...
The fast train to London only takes 20 minutes.
200 yards from our house are fields and footpaths, with horses and alpaca.
My neighbours are lovely, do our bins when we are away and are generally really nice people

Maddy70 · 29/05/2024 20:24

I don't live in the uk however I am sitting in my terrace overlooking the park full of palm trees and parrots and i am 3 mins walk to the most beautiful beach with a stunning view of an old town

FOJN · 29/05/2024 20:26

I have an amazing view of coastal countryside from my kitchen. I live 400 metres from the beach. Everywhere is very green, lots of trees. Small, very friendly town.

CrispsnDips · 29/05/2024 20:27

I have woodland to the left of my house - 10 metres away
playing fields/open countryside to the right - 20 metres away
trains to London take 45 mins
pretty villages and cycle paths within two miles
35 mins to walk into the town centre

GOODCAT · 29/05/2024 20:28

Like the river, the park, the national park nearby and the coast within a half hour drive and bus stop near by. Also within a ten minute walk of shops. Can cycle fairly safely to national park. Basically a safe area to live.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 29/05/2024 20:28

Oh, Vancouver Island must be beautiful! Canoes for kids is wonderful! I’ve been to Vancouver which was lovely.

Like a pp, I can get into London really quickly but can walk to countryside and forests within a few minutes.

Our road specifically is very friendly and quiet. Oh and five minute drive to work, ten minutes to large town with theatre, swimming pool, library, bowling, cinema etc.

thistimelastweek · 29/05/2024 20:28

Lovely countryside and millions of trees.

TeenLifeMum · 29/05/2024 20:31

I can’t beat Vancouver island but we can get to London and back in a day trip, have 2 county parks (one I can walk to and one a 5 minute drive), a river for kayaking and paddle boarding, can get to the sea within 45 minutes, 2 cities within an hour, lovely theatre, choice of restaurants.

DoingJustFine · 29/05/2024 20:31

@BruceAndNosh where are you? I used to live in Surbiton, which was 20 minutes to London, but we didn’t have alpacas, sadly.

You probably live near me!

dudsville · 29/05/2024 20:36

It's so still and quiet. Today I spent the afternoon reading with the doors and windows open, all I could hear was the birds. We're not far off a main, heavily used road, but out little street has a kink in it and wet on a gentle slope, so the sound is buffered. It's so peaceful.

Do my neighbours do your bins too? 😁

user1471453601 · 29/05/2024 20:36

Well if we are talking about my actual house, it's nice because all I can see from my living room window is trees and the roofs of a couple of houses.

If you talking about the city I live in, the centre is pretty much dead, I'm told. I'm pretty much household these days, so I couldn't say from personal experience. Levelling Up, if it's happened anywhere, doesn't seemed to have happened here, if it's happened anywhere.

TroysMammy · 29/05/2024 20:40

Extensive wooded area, coast, marina, beautiful parks and shopping centre in about a 5 mile or maybe less radius.

Iwantmybed · 29/05/2024 20:42

I love where I am, a big village with a huge country park and lake a mile away. Location wise, we are near a big dual carriageway that takes us to 2 major UK cities 30 mins in either direction. We're 20 mins from 3 big towns and have 4 major motorways within 10 miles to take us North/South/ East/ West. We seem to be smack bang in the middle of a lot of urban areas whilst still technically a village.

Our village is split into a few different areas and has lots of shops/ takeaways/ pubs/ salons, 5 primary schools, 2 churches and a gym. I love it here.

eileandubh · 29/05/2024 20:49

I live in a rural county where local dairy farmers have set up milk dispensers, so you can buy fresh-fresh-fresh full cream milk in a glass bottle 24/7, and I love it so much it makes me forget about the potholes.

dizzydizzydizzy · 29/05/2024 20:52

Actually @BruceAndNosh I am the one who does the neighbours' bins.

Our local park is a very short walk from the house. Saw today that they'd set the cricket pitch out and it looked so nice, just need the weather now 😂

Nearest beach is 10 mins drive away, not my favourite but its usually quiet and easy parking for walking the dog.

Our nearest country park is 10 mins in the other direction and then a forest with numerous walking routes is about 15 mins away.

We have fallen lucky with just the most lovely neighbours. This week I was told "the tomatoes are on their way" which means he'll be bringing over his "spares", they are gorgeous!! He also brings our bins in when we are away. He's in his 80's and loves helping. Our other neighbours included ds in their bbq when we were away.

Threads like this remind me why I live here.

AlbertVille · 29/05/2024 21:14

Our accordion player busker/beggar plays very high end music.

Comedycook · 29/05/2024 21:16

I love that where I live in suburban London there is so much for my kids to do. Loads of parks, swimming pools, cinemas, trampoline places, bowling, climbing, arty stuff etc.

CeeJay81 · 29/05/2024 21:21

@eileandubh sound like where I live too.

hby9628 · 29/05/2024 21:37

It's the town I grew up in. The kids have lots of friends and people look out for each other. It's a safe & generally happy place to be & i absolutely love our home.
We live approx 4 miles from mcr city centre which is easy to get to.

RomanRoysSearchHistory · 29/05/2024 21:48

Fresh air. Very green, like living in a rainforest. Loud birdsong. Visible stars (when it isn't raining). Tight community. Safe from most crime.
