In the UK - Can I book an uber for someone many miles away?

I have Googled but I keep getting directed to the US website. I want to know about the situation in the UK.

I'm in the UK. I'm in Leeds. My mum's is in Bristol.

Can I book her an Uber to bring her from her house in Bristol to my house in Leeds?

Thanks for any help with this!

Yes you can enter any pick up address and drop off address you like, just go on the app and enter the addresses.

An Uber from Bristol to Leeds will cost a fortune!

Needmorelego · 29/05/2024 13:09

If Uber covers where she lives then yes you can basically book anywhere from A - B.
However Bristol to Leeds is a long way and I can't imagine many drivers would be happy to do that (they would lose a lot of money from the return journey to get home again).
Maybe look at Bristol taxi companies that do airport runs - as their drivers travel further.

Yeah I’m not sure Uber is your friend here. You need a local taxi company that has drivers who don’t mind longer runs and pre book it- they definitely exist as often used to courier urgent deliveries- I met a guy who was driving from Sussex to Newcastle on Christmas Day! Otherwise chances of an Uber driver actually having time to do a return trip to Leeds is small even if they have the inclination.

You can but far better to find a Bristol based company and negotiate a set price. If you are a bit flexible on timing it helps, it's hard to get a taxi before 9am here!

Tdcp · 29/05/2024 13:13

Bristol to Leeds and back is an 8 hour drive without traffic, I'm not sure Uber will be the best course of action here.

mitogoshi · 29/05/2024 13:16

Far more economical if she can manage it is the FlixBus which has a direct service to Leeds from Bond Street in Bristol.

AlittlebitofMonica · 29/05/2024 13:17

You can, but that would be insane.

Look for taxi companies in bristol that do airport runs - eg Cadbury cars, they’re a lot more likely to want to do that kind of big drive and will almost certainly give you a better price.

TidyDancer · 29/05/2024 13:19

Yeah I just looked on the app and it would be a minimum of £300 but likely more. And that's if you could get a driver to do it which I think would be quite unlikely.

sweetpickle2 · 29/05/2024 13:21

In theory yes you can put in any two addresses, no driver will accept the job though probably.

Amx · 29/05/2024 13:27

No clue but hope your mum is okay x

MrChin · 29/05/2024 13:41

Thank you!

We've done this before in reverse - Leeds to Bristol - and had no trouble getting a driver. That was okay because I was in Leeds so I just booked it like a normal Uber.

I'll take a look at local taxi firms

They would for the right price, which would be hundreds of pounds.

8 hour round trip plus stops, even at NMW that's £100+. Then you have the cost of running the car and Uber's cut. Got to be £300 ish at least?

You can enter the addresses into Uber and see what the price is in exactly the same way.
