Which kindle to get?

I've got a 6th generation paperwhite, it's served me well since I bought it secondhand including a case 10 years ago. DH would like one as a present, my first thought would be to get the same model, but he wants an all singing, all dancing one, which I see no point in.

I love my kindle because it has a dull screen so it doesn't affect me getting to sleep and can be used in direct sunlight.

Which model should I be looking to get? I don't want to spend too much and I'm happy to buy secondhand. Is the 11th generation paperwhite (plus or minus signature edition) really worth the extra money?

I dont think it is worth the extra money but buy a regular kindle new enough that it will last for a few years at least

If I was choosing, I'd pick the Paperwhite at £109.99 because I like the fact it's waterproof (good for spa, beach, bath etc) and it looks like it's currently on offer. I can't see how wireless charging (they only need charging every few weeks) or auto adjusting light sensors are worth an extra £70 tbh.

But if it's going to be his kindle, he should be able to choose which version? So if he wants a more expensive one than what you want to spend, you could buy him an Amazon voucher and he pays the rest of the cost himself. But then it all starts to sound a bit odd in terms of gifts between spouses and who pays for what.

I also see that Amazon have some 'certified refurbished' kindles that might be worth looking at.

Mine is a Paperwhite 10th Generation, and I don't feel that it's missing any features from newer ones.

I've got the Oasis (my 3rd kindle, I've had one since they first came out) which is the most expensive version. I bought my husband the cheapest model (as he's never had one before and wasn't sure how much he'd use it). I think it all depends how often you're going to use it. I like the one I got for my OH as it's small and light, but when I compare the screen on mine the crispness and clarity of the text is so much better. It really blows the cheaper one out of the water. I also like that it has page turn buttons and can be used left or right handed. I don't like that the metal outside is cold on your hand, especially in winter (I've got a case on it now).

For the paper white models- It's useful having a back light, especially if it auto adjusts, but probably not worth the extra money. Waterproof is useful and I would pay more for that.

I have two kindles (one was a gift)
The kindle paper white signature edition and the Oasis. I like the buttons in the oasis but I don't like the shape. If the paper white had buttons it would be fine but I am not really a fan though it's better for my eyes at night. I much prefer to read my kindles via the kindle app on my phone Grin
