Sister just had some guy walk into her hotel room.

DS is staying in London for work (a Hilton in Croydon I think) and she just rang me, a little shooketh.

She came in after being on site (work) and locked the door behind her and she is sure she put on the bolt thing (will try to add a picture).

Some random guy (a hotel employee) just walked in unaccounted - she was a little way around the corner so poked her head around and said hello. He just left (saying nowt) so she followed him outside to the hallway and he said he was just conducting a "spot check".

I do not like this. She's a single young woman on her own. It makes me think of Lucy Spraggan's awful experience.

I have told her to go down, report it and asked to be put in another room. That way he's on notice and he also hopefully shouldn't know where she's gone.

Any reason a hotel employee would do this?

This happened to me on Friday night on my way to London! It was the middle of the night and I had my kids with me! I hope your sister is ok, it’s so frightening!

Arlanymor · 28/05/2024 19:19

If it was a genuine check (although have never heard of hotel spot checks in occupied rooms) he would have announced himself and not just walked off into the hallway.

She definitely needs to report it, ask for an explanation (because sometimes there are reasons why random things occur) and request a room change because she feels unsafe. Ideally a nicer room, the least they can do is offer an upgrade. She could easily have been in the shower after a long day and not bothering to look the bathroom door because she is the sole occupant.

PossumintheHouse · 28/05/2024 19:19

A spot check? Well that's bollocks for starters. Why didn't he say anything if he wasn't doing anything suss?
I'd go straight to reception and ask for another (better) room.

I am in total agreement with you OP, she should raise a complaint and tell them she requires a different room.

She could’ve been doing anything in the privacy of her own room!

LakeTiticaca · 28/05/2024 19:22

Definitely go to reception. Ask for the manager, don't let them fob you off

lilyathena · 28/05/2024 19:25

I travel with a door jam in my work overnight bag, and use it for that reason.

LateMumma · 28/05/2024 19:27

Absolutely report. How frightening for your sister, I hope she's ok

SphincterSaysWhat · 28/05/2024 19:27

It's the saying nothing and just heading back to the hall that was off. Also his entry was completely unannounced. Like, completely.

I don't think that's being paranoid.

Spot check my arse.

CandyLeBonBon · 28/05/2024 19:29

How bizarre! No knocking or announcing or anything?

Totally not paranoid. It ‘s creepy AF, she could have been doing anything.

rainbowbee · 28/05/2024 19:29

Report report report. Next time, bring door jams and/or the device that locks doors from the inside. I hate that we have to do this shit. And I too have never heard of a hotel spot check.

Do you think that's ok ?

Aquamarine1029 · 28/05/2024 19:30

This was no accident and it certainly wasn't some "spot check." Your sister needs to report this immediately and raise absolute hell about it.

DoYouSmokePaul · 28/05/2024 19:31

You’re not paranoid, that’s awful! No way should he be walking in announced into anyone’s room. His behaviour after was so sus. Your poor daughter.

You must be very, very naive.

Tibbq · 28/05/2024 19:31

she should defs report it and like you say ask to move room.

theres nothing paranoid about that, I never not knocked or announced my presence when I worked in a hotel.

Spudoolikay · 28/05/2024 19:34

Definitely complain and ask them to check the cctv to check it was an employee. I'd be really unsettled by this.

If she's got a magazine or newspaper she could fashion a make-shift door wedge.

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 28/05/2024 19:34

I stay in a lot of hotels and have never seen anyone doing spot checks.

Report to front desk (in person) but also head office. Maybe it’s innocent but she needs to make them aware.

I think you're rude and naive

Bumblebun · 28/05/2024 19:37

Did she see him go into any other rooms?

can she ask any of the other guests if they had a spot check?

if not; then I think your onto something 🤔

Pombearprincess · 28/05/2024 19:37

Thats def not right. Any hotel I have ever been in staff always knock first. They don't just let themselves into possibly occupied rooms. Never come across such a thing as a spot check of an occupied room. And then not to explain what their status is , who they are etc sound very shifty.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 28/05/2024 19:39

A spot check of what exactly? It's suspicious as fuck.

Agree she should go to reception and complain & ask for a new room.

AlwaysGinPlease · 28/05/2024 19:39

This is very worrying . She must report this to the hotel. I have stayed in a lot of hotels, of all price ranges and this has never happened. He is either a thief or worse.
