I book afternoon tea for about 2.30 pm. Have usual breakfast and no lunch nch then can eat a bit more. No dinner needed.
Went to Gleneagles which was fabulous and Harvey nicks and still have another voucher for there.

I got married 2 years ago and had my 60th last year so had loads of vouchers as presents!

It looks delicious but it looks like about a month's worth of food there

I mean they definitely aren't scrimping on the portions and variety but it's doable in a day.

The only thing I worry about with afternoon tea is that there's too much sweet and not enough savoury but the taster cup of soup would put my mind at rest Grin

We couldn't eat it all but luckily they gave us the option to take ut home.
I would have preferred more savoury.

I’m going for one that I won next weekend. I feel like a nuisance though because I don’t like butter/ marg in sandwiches. I’ve only had one AT where I told them ahead and it still came out with buttered bread. Fingers crossed for next week.

Wow that looks fantastic. My favourite afternoon tea so far has been at Cliveden. Delicious food and beautiful setting.

Beautifulbythebay · 28/05/2024 18:03

That looks amazing OP!

I'm like you in that I prefer more savoury, but still it looks gorgeous.

greengreyblue · 28/05/2024 18:23

Also Betty’s always has a massive queue.

It's very nice though.

I thought Betty’s (in York) was nice, but overrated and overpriced.

Yours OP looks delicious and very reasonably priced! Was all that in the photo for 2 of you?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/05/2024 20:36

I've been to afternoon tea in the Lanesborough Hotel twice. One of my friends wanted to go for her birthday and about 8 or 10 of us went along. The room that they serve in was gorgeous, so bright and pretty and there was a tea sommelier.

SuperheroBirds · 28/05/2024 20:58

Betty’s is more if you prebook, but then you get a reserved table in a separate quiet room just for afternoon teas, with a pianist. It is less in the cafe part but you have to queue and it is much busier. The pre booked afternoon tea comes with unlimited sandwiches (although I could only manage two more) and unlimited fancy teas, I don’t know if the same is true in the cafe part.
if Betty’s is full or too expensive The Old York Tea Room has lovely scones and cakes, but I don’t know if they do a full afternoon tea.

You could get the train from York to Doncaster and have what the OP had in about 20 mins.

The last Afternoon Tea I had was at The Dome in Edinburgh to celebrate my daughter’s graduation. That was really lovely, much nicer than the one in Betty’s.
