Disappointed with holiday & weather

We've been waiting for this week for ages, pushing through to get here really. It's rained every day. My herniated discs are acting up so I'm limping badly and struggling with walking. Dh is still thinking about work because he wants to leave. Today's activity cost us £70 and I think the kids were actually bored. Just want to have a little vent, I know it's not all awful but just wish the sun would come out!!!

Where are you?

Boomer55 · 28/05/2024 16:55

Britain has never been known for reliable weather.🤷‍♀️

Curlewwoohoo · 28/05/2024 17:04

We're on the Yorkshire coast.

Yes of course it's never reliable but I guess we always live in hope of catching a good spell! Could have really done with it.

I’m off work this week and really wanted to go paddle boarding / kayaking but the weather is rubbish. We live in a beautiful part of the country but I’m craving the sun. We’re flying on holiday in July for a week of sun and I’m already counting the days.

Sallycinnamum · 28/05/2024 17:08

We are currently in Paris with two teenagers and the weather is atrocious.

Last time we visited in May, DH and I had to find some shade as it was too hot.

Luckily there is tons to do inside but the rain has been biblical at times.

I'm glad I didn't pay £1000s to be in my Cornish village this week.. it's been cold, damp and wet most of last weekend and continues to be grotty.
There's some miserable families walking around the village..

Curlewwoohoo · 28/05/2024 17:19

I've taken some codeine to enable a wet walk to the pub. The tables because everyone else has had the same idea...

You’re completely justified in being a bit miserable. The forecast for this next week is diabolical. Next Monday when the children are back at school it’s full sun and 23 degrees.

Roselilly36 · 28/05/2024 17:23

I don’t blame you OP, I would be fed up too. Hope the weather improves.

Teeheehee1579 · 28/05/2024 17:25

Yup agree! We are in devon… trudged round a small theme park today, kids wet and miserable. Ugh ugh ugh. For the first time in years we are going abroad this summer as we are absolutely sick of it

Spikyplant · 28/05/2024 17:30

I agree. This weather for the time of year is terrible! I'm going to mainland Europe this week and it's given days of rain 😭. It's my only holiday abroad in years and likely for a while. It sucks.

JennyfromtheBlok · 28/05/2024 17:31

Camping since Friday!
tent went up in full sun then it’s pretty much rained since. We did have an ok day yesterday, thundery though.
Sun this morning for 3 hours when i took the tent down! Joy 🤣
I felt sorry for other families who this is their only break all year. We do camp a fair bit during the summer months and we’re only half an hour away from home.

🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 It gets better. I want a proper summer

Octavia64 · 28/05/2024 17:31

It's really bad at the moment. I feel your pain.

whereisthesummer22 · 28/05/2024 17:48

We were looking at going abroad but thought 3.5 k plus for a week s/c was a lot so chanced it with 4 nights in the UK.

It's still cost us nearly 1000 for accommodation but I booked a place with a football court and splash park but it's been too wet to use. Activities in wet weather are so expensive! We've trudged around the little villages in our raincoats and spent a fortune on overpriced flapjacks.

I had lost weight for holiday but have piled it all back on in one day!

I knew I should have just booked abroad!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/05/2024 17:50

Rant away- sick of the fucking weather, extra piss taking that dry and 22 degrees next week when schools are back.

AFmammaG · 28/05/2024 17:56

Paid a ridiculous amount for 90 minutes of soft play today. My oldest is too big but we needed to do something… it was miserable. Have looked to book a swim tomorrow but it’s already full and equally expensive. Plus they also limit the swim session to 90 minutes. It’s not enough to fill the day. Yeah it’s pretty depressing.

Yes same in my small north Cornish town. Everyone miserablly trailing round the supermarkets .

Onand · 28/05/2024 18:19

Pretty sure it’s been an El Niño year hence the shitty weather. We anticipated glorious weather which has been the case the last 2 May half terms…instead it’s grey and damp 🫠🥺

WittiestUsernameEver · 28/05/2024 18:20

We're in Bognor, sunny but windy the past couple of days. Rainy and damp today. Took the 4yo for a windy walk in Pegham Bay and then swimming at the caravan park this afternoon

Should be sunny again tomorrow 🤞🤞🤞

Another drizzle day in Thursday it looks like, so might do swimming again (easy and free!) and maybe cinema or something or soft play.

Bit we're happy to mooch about in the caravan really.

Curlewwoohoo · 28/05/2024 19:22

@Onand i heard that too, second hand info originally off someone who paraglides, who said it'll be crap for a couple of years 😱 I might do some research now actually into whether that's true.

We should have been camping but had to move the dates in the end. I'm glad we did, it's not been great weather had it?
