Royal Mail post during bank holidays

I posted a large letter first class and a parcel first class signed for on Saturday. This is to go somewhere c. 60 mil away. When would you expect it to arrive at the destination?
I'm just curious how much the bank holiday effects this.

Wednesday.

Did it get the collection on Saturday which is generally earlier than in the week, if not it wouldn't have been collected until today so earliest Wednesday

Tomorrow. I posted a large letter first class from local Post Office on Saturday morning a couple of weeks ago, and it arrived on the Monday, don’t see why BH would delay it more than the one day with no post delivery.

Yup went in the Saturday post.

I use Royal Mail for my business. Posting on a Saturday by first classic usually means it arrives the Monday. When Monday is a bank holiday, it arrives on Tuesday. (Not always, there is a small percentage which doesn’t arrive the next day when using first class so sometimes they can take until the next day after that one).

Thank you so much, that's helpful to know. Does it make a difference if it's sent signed for or just first class?

Depends if it signed for by 9 or 1 next day which is special delivery, if just signed for it will be the same as normal 1st class

Theredoubtableskins · 28/05/2024 13:03

I’m not sure I’ve noticed much of a difference. I use either plain first class or “tracked 24” which is probably the new name for signed for first class? But they both tend to arrive next day, or sometimes one extra day but that’s unusual.

Adipocere · 28/05/2024 13:04

I am waiting for a Signed For 1st class item, it was posted last Thursday, still not arrived. Last time this happened it was Easter and it took 10 days to get to me

BobnLen · 28/05/2024 13:08

I usually only use special delivery if it's something high value, urgent paperwork or something like a share certificate which might have high consequential loss. Signed 24 or first class should hopefully get there today or tomorrow.

maximist · 28/05/2024 13:27

I sent two parcels by RM's Tracked48 service on Saturday (posted after last collection on Friday) and they were both delivered today - I was expecting tomorrow.

mindutopia · 28/05/2024 14:27

I think the bank holiday is less of an issue here than the wild card of how regular someone's post is being delivered. Around us, it's not at all unusual for post to not be delivered every day - as in not all areas get deliveries daily. For awhile, we were only getting it maybe twice a week because post man just didn't cover our area other days because of staffing.

Yh I get you and I thought that too. The postman hasn't been at all today and we're London!

Edited

I have a feeling the parcel will arrive quicker than the letter

I was told needing a signature slows stuff down by my outreach PO. Also, the boss of RM is on record saying that parcels are more of a priority to their business model nowadays. I remember watching that on the TV and thinking it was a bit of a Gerald Ratner moment.

Foxesandsquirrels · 29/05/2024 15:49

@unsync I guess that makes sense. Just frustrating, we haven't had any post yesterday or today, parcel van or normal. I'm waiting for a parcel someone sent me first class on Thurs!
The letter and parcel I sent, still haven't reached my friend despite being sent 1st class on Sat and going in that days post :/ Hopefully they get them tomorrow.
