Best Restaurant recommendations for birthday (fat duck)

Hi,

Looking for brilliant restaurant recs/dining experiences for my partner. I'm a tiny bit fussy but he eats anything. He'd love the Fat Duck but I'm thinking I'd be too fussy (no fish) for a set menu type thing. Any other amazing recs? Or chef's table?

Le manoir aux quat saisons
l'enclume (although lots of fish courses)

Waterside Inn. Absolutely beautiful.

@SockQueen @MrsHamlet thanks for replying! We were thinking somewhere a bit quirkier/different though. Can go to London or outskirts

Waterside Inn. Absolutely beautiful.

I would second this. Amazing place.

I found the Fat Duck a bit pretentious. I enjoyed the experience (but I’m not fussy…) but I wouldn’t go back.

I return to the waterside inn at least once a year.

Waterside and the fat duck are both amazing. Very different experiences but special in their own way

Le Manoir is stunning
I haven’t been to Bibendum but Claude Bosi is fab, Hibiscus was awesome
I didn’t think L’Enclume was that great and it’s miles from London

TizerorFizz · 16/04/2025 23:47

Aulis or Row on 5 or The Clove Club or Sketch. All London.

user499978802 · 16/04/2025 23:52

Aulis is amazing and they're very accommodating if you let them know of dislikes in advance.

Le Manoir definitely has at least one fish course
Clove Club is good but I think a bit overrated

Kebab Queen is fun

Akoko

Evelyn's Table

I don't think he takes special dietary requests, but Ynysir is phenomenal and a true experience

We love Northcote for a night away. It’s one Michelin star and completely scrumptious without an ounce of unnecessary pretention . The staff are all just lovely and so knowledgeable. It’s in a beautiful part of the country and as a guest they can provide you with maps and bicycles to explore.
Wehave family who live just over the border in Gods Own Country but we happily stay at Northcote when we visit as the service is just so perfect.

Gah! Zombie! Sorry!

TizerorFizz · 17/04/2025 00:06

Isn’t that Lisa Goodwin Allen? She’s leaving I think.

user499978802 · 17/04/2025 00:07

Sorry - hadn't realised this was a zombie!

I know it's not near London but if you fancy a real treat L' enlume in Cartmel (Lake District) really can't be beaten and it's not stupidly expensive.
It has been voted one of the top 5 in the world and has 3 Michelin stars, I've been a few times and it lives up to the hype.
You can get a very nice BnB nearby and the surrounding area is stunning, you'd probably be able to do it for the price of a starter in London

Look up restaurant story.

TizerorFizz · 17/04/2025 09:51

@Elferbowton l’Enclume is £265. £125 for light lunch in the summer.

Restaurant Story is £250 pp. Row on 5 is similar.
