Does anyone's DC do competitive dance?

DD (8) has been invited onto the completion team at her dance class. She would be doing 4 hours a week of dance instead of 1, however I wonder what else will be entailed (obviously I will ask!). If anyone else's DC do competitive dance, how is it and what are some things that I won't be told about but is part of it anyway?

Ask about which competitions they will enter, and how much it will cost for entry/costume etc.

My DD14 does. She loves it but to be honest it's a ball ache! Most weekends we are traipsing miles away for competitions. Expensive costumes. Paying to watch competitions. Long days sitting around. Extra classes. If it's something she loves then go for it but I'd think very carefully!

My DC do street dance, we do maybe one comp every few months, costs £30/40 for tickets for two. Travel max an hour away. Kids love it but it is a full on noisy day with lots of waiting! We don’t go mad on costumes, no make up.
