Firstly apologies - was not sure which section to post this! But just hoping for
some advice really.
My friend is getting married and i went to an asian shop to purchase an asian dress. The outfit was for £70 and should have been a size 44 (Large)
Once I got home I realised the shopkeeper did not put a receipt in the bag, and on checking the outfit the dress was a size 40 (Medium) - I couldn’t find the shop details online to call them and the name on the shopping bag was different to the actual shop name! So i had no option but to return this Saturday.
When I explained the size issue she said she didn’t have any more sizes in that dress so I then asked for a refund or exchange as the dress is now not fit for purpose through her own mistake.
She said there is a “no exchange or refund policy” I was really shocked by this and said you did not mention this on the day of purchase, nor did you give me a receipt - to which she responded “you didn’t ask” !!? - There were also no signs inside or ouside the shop regarding this.
I told her I am happy with the outfit, it’s the size that is the issue and if she could order me my size i’ll happily come to get it. She said no and suggested I take it to a tailor to alter. I told her I paid £70 for an outfit an now I need to spend more to alter it because you gave me the wrong size? She still refused and said to “come back tomorrow and discuss it with my husband” - I couldn’t make it the next day so she told me to leave my number and when I asked for her number, she told me to find it online!
Sunday no call all day from her husband. The shop is in another town so I have to make time to get there.
No idea what to do. I don’t want to drive down there for another dead-end conversation. They’re not calling back and I can’t get in touch with them any other way.
My friend suggested I call trading standards as I have comsumer rights.
Anyone been in a situation like this or can anyone give some advice on what I should do next?
Thank you in advance xx
