Very confused and think I might be missing something. But was this really snarky?

6 year old boy when coming back from staying at his dad's: "grandma was talking about you at dinner time! She thinks you are really cool. I told her about the fun time we had at the mountains, and Grandma said it was really nice of you to take all of us there".
