What does sciatica feel like?

I have this pain going on just above my pelvis on the right hand side only. This follows long term bilateral hip and leg pains but is new and I'm trying to figure out what it could be.

It's not constant but is becoming more frequent. It's not related to movement. It feels like the pain "turns on", is very sharp and then stops. Currently I'm lying in bed and it's doing that every minute or so.

It doesn't feel like nerve pain as it's not tingly or like an electric shock (which I do get from time to time) but is in a very specific location so I wonder if it could be a trapped nerve.

Can anyone who's had this let me know how you felt?

I have a very high pain threshold but was in tears with sciatica. It felt like knives were being thrust into my lower back. I have honestly never known anything like it.

Sciatica is like hot lava running down your leg. If you've had toothache it's the same type of high intensity pain as that.

My sciatica varies from a full ache in my hip or a gnawing pain in my ankle to full on excruciating pain all the way down a leg
