Anyone recently returned to the U.K. after living/working abroad?

I would like to hear anyone’s experiences of moving back to the U.K. in the last few years.

DH, DS and I have lived abroad since 2012 but will be returning to live in U.K in next few years or possibly sooner.
I have visited my family every summer. I keep up with U.K. news (and Strictly Come Dancing) and I still feel British, although I’ve integrated into my community where I live now

DS who studies at a private UK. curriculum school here and he wants to do his A levels in the U.K.

thanks

(name changed for this, although I don’t post much these days anyway, but my old user name could alert DH’s boss who sometimes posts on here that we are leaving before we are ready to share that info)

We came back last year after more than 10 years abroad and have found the UK to be a very different place to the dystopian hell that is often trotted out on MN and our now local FB page!

I enjoy going to the supermarket and seeing a range of products instead of exactly the same products and layout month in and month out.

I like looking at a recipe and knowing that the majority of ingredients are available locally.

I love the fact that we can order a takeaway for delivery.

We have both managed to register with the local GP surgery and have had no issues with them. We were both booked in for a basic health check and full bloods within a fortnight. I can just request my repeat prescription on an app and pick it up next day - and it's free.

If something goes wrong in the house or if we just want some improvements done then we can easily contact someone who can come round and sort it out.

My only gripe would be the bloody rain - it has rained almost every day since we came back (or it feels like that anyway!). On the plus side, on the rare sunny days I can hang the washing outside without needing protective clothing to prevent myself getting bitten 40 times by evil bitey/stingy bastards.

No regrets.
