Have I been scammed outside the supermarket?

Two weeks ago I had a lot of money taken from my bank account even my ISA luckily I am getting it back.
Today I quickly went to the supermarket chemo in tow as I needed to get a walk in and to pick up a parcel. My friend was with me. There was a mum outside Asda with the biggest black eye pushing a pram back and forth. It was the bruises I noticed. She approached me said she was in a refuge after an incident but her money won’t be through til Monday and she needed some nappies and abit of food. I noticed she had those baby biscuits under the pram. I never had any cash but said I would nip into Asda. Have you ever “nipped into Asda”😀 I got a small package of pampers size 3 like she asked and played the cancer card as I could not face the queue and the customer services were fantastic, it took me a good twenty minutes to find the nappies though.

anyway she was waiting I gave her the nappies without the receipt looked into the pram and she said he wasn’t there the refuge was looking after him,

have I been done? I mean it was nappies so hopefully some baby will benefit down the line. She honestly was bruised and quite fresh.

You did a very kind thing. Hopefully someone’s baby benefits from it.
It may be a scam but you’ve not really given them anything much so I’d not worry about it.
The most they’ve got out of you was a couple of quid.
Just stick to the never giving out cash rule and you’ll be ok.

I would imagine they have been beaten up desperate people do desperate things for cash.

She most likely wanted cash. In order to get cash she will have to sell that pack of nappies on. So some baby somewhere will end up using them. Think of that as a good deed for a baby that you have done.
But don't do it again.
If she was genuinely in a refuge they will be helping her with getting baby supplies if she actually needs them.
