WhatsApp - sorry but boring but I need help!

My WhatsApp notification is set to a ping, but in the past week or so it is giving me an additional notification noise every time I open the app. It's annoying and seems louder than my notifications. Can I switch it off?
Is it not the same noise as my message notifications, but is the noise I get if someone messages me when the app is already open.

This may be a setting in your phone, not in Whatsapp. Is it an Android phone or an iphone? I have an Android phone and, to resolve this, I would go to my phone settings and choose:
Notifications,
App Settings,
Whatsapp,
Then identify the relevant notification type, and adjust its settings.

Thanks, it's an iPhone. I have looked in settings and WhatsApp settings and there is nowhere to adjust it - just 'sound' for message notifications and group notifications.

Mine too, I think there's been an update as mine now looks a bit different and vibrates when I open it if there's unread messages.

Oh here, I turned mine off in 'in-app notifications'.

@TakeThePain ah! Thank you. I saw that, but became it had the banners thing at the top I assumed that was something else.
I have switched it off now. Thanks for your help.
