Mirena strings - help me before I send DH up there with a torch and nail clippers

Had new coil inserted yesterday. The old one, the doctor said the strings had been cut too short so she “left them a little longer this time.” They have been pricking all day and are about an inch up from my vaginal opening. I shoved them higher up, which helped, but they’ve worked their way back down and are driving me mad with the pricking. I’m going away on Monday for a month. Will they soften or move higher up, or do I have to send DH up there to sort it out?

I was itchy and uncomfortable until I had the damn thing out after 18 months. They kept telling me it was thrush 🙄

I’m wondering whether to go to urgent care tomorrow?

I'm not at all a medical professional but I'd go see someone if I were you. They probably will soften over time but why wait with all the discomfort?

Also from my understanding there is no real benefit to having them longer (other than the peace of mind if being able to feel them) whereas there is risk if they are too long that you accidentally pull them and dislodge coil (I think?! Don’t quote me on that).

Have a copper coil for ref, have never been able to feel strings but always been assured they are there by GP.

Good luck!
