Please don’t move this to the Election Board as this is a far more general point about modern day misinformation and many not that interested in the GE, and who would not visit a specific board, need to be aware for the sake of democracy.

That the manipulative election tactics have already started. The photo below is an example of a copied text meant to look like it’s been posted by very different people (ie someone like you, a Palestinian supporter, an Israeli supporter and an LFC supporter in this example).

I think we’ve also seen this evidenced on Mumsnet this week with a number of posts about some unknown imminent disaster, purely designed to terrify people into not voting for an ‘unknown.’

this is a tactic we’ve also heard Rishi Sunak use in person. “The next few years are going to be both "dangerous" and "transformational" for the UK, the prime minister warned multiple times while rolling out sample pillars of his election manifesto”

Whomever you vote for just make sure you’re looking at facts and not being manipulated.

Did you look at the picture? At best it's copy and paste. More likely some kind of bot.

Not really surprising. Jeremy Corbyn was vilified by the press in the lead up to the election back in 2019. They did a mighty fine job of it too.

yes, of course. It’s not one person sitting there typing it all!

I expect the Russians will be interfering again.

You should check out the podcast Who Trolled Amber...?

It's about the Amber Heard v Johnny Depp cases but really it's about online bots, trolling, social media factories etc and how to spot the signs. So interesting.

All the parties do that.

Last election I'd say Labour was very active on MN; there was post after post that clearly was written from one prospective. Maybe the Tories are trying to get in first this time. Don't care. I can make up my own mind without badly written posts on MN or anywhere else. I'd hope other people would be the same.

I'm not convinced by parties and don't feel particularly attached to any.

For the local elections I decided I'd keep a tally board. Every time I saw a post from a candidate that was blaming/bad mouthing another rather than saying what they did I gave them a mark, and then I voted for the one with the least marks, as long as they hadn't said anything I'd actively oppose. I think that is as good a way as any.
I want to vote for a party that has good policies, not the one who disses the others the most.

Bring back positive campaigning, not negative.

Apologies @Catlicker I didn't mean you - I meant @steamedisbest who was asking for evidence.

And it was justified. Friend of Hamas. Says it all.

MotherFeministWoman · 25/05/2024 14:55

I'm smart enough not to agree with everything someone says just because we seem to have other beliefs in common.
