What’s going on with Tesco Delivery?

NonBinaryBlanket · 25/05/2024 10:09

We used to get a slot the next day or day after. For the last few months we’ve had to wait at least 2 weeks.

What’s going on? Does anybody know?

I think that must be specific to where you are as I can currently still get a slot for later today, tomorrow or Monday. I’ve never had to wait more than a couple of days for a time to be free (unless it’s Christmas obviously!)

Digimoor · 25/05/2024 10:17

I've been having the same problem for the last month
I know it's half term but there are no slots here until next weekend
I've switched to Ocado in the meantime as they had an intro offer and free delivery for 3 months

SuncreamAndIceCream · 25/05/2024 10:19

I've moved to a new area and instead of being able to get a slot tomorrow there's never anything available within a week. Started using the flex delivery as that's better but I still can't get anything before Tuesday at the minute

I've switched to Waitrose as at least there's slots the next day

BobbyBiscuits · 25/05/2024 10:22

I had this for the last couple of months. It used to be a week, now it's 3 to 4 weeks before a slot is free!? Really shit. Started using Sainsbury's as they can do it usually in 2 days.

bugaboo218 · 25/05/2024 10:23

I having the same issue. Always managed to get a slot within 2-3 days.

I cannot get one until next weekend, which isn't any good for me.

Not sure why this has happened with Tesco

Am now on my way against my better judgement to the supermarket (not Tesco) to do my weekly shop.

It is frustrating- I shop online because I hate going to a physical supermarket.

MissMelanieH · 25/05/2024 10:24

I think recruitment for lower paid jobs that can't be done remotely is a real struggle, especially in areas that are expensive to live in.
I can get a slot tomorrow but I live in a much cheaper area.
I wonder if that's the issue?

I thought most people booked multiple slots in advance? We always have! I've got all my slots booked for the next 4 weeks. Then I log on and fill the online basket the night before. I book the next 4 slots once the last one arrives.

Persipan · 25/05/2024 10:30

There's like nine slots I could book tomorrow, and 14 for Monday, so I think this is a localised issue rather than everywhere.

FlamingoNotAPigeon · 25/05/2024 10:38

I think it must be an issue in your area as it's okay here. I placed an order one morning and received it that evening and I placed another order a few days ago and it is due to arrive this afternoon.

The only time I've had issues with slots not being available is in busier times such as Christmas. Sometimes there's not many available around a couple of days before the half term times or Easter but it's been fine this year.

FairyCakesss · 25/05/2024 10:59

Not here I can get a slot for today but don't want it as it's 9-10 tomorrow I can get a slot for any time of the day

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 25/05/2024 11:09

It's all a bit weird. I order my shopping and my mum's (she has early dementia) we live one street away, we both have delivery saver. This week I couldn't get a delivery for us on Friday but could for mum... not sure what's going on.

Luckingfovely · 25/05/2024 11:10

It's been harder to get the middle of the day slots here, but tomorrow is miraculously free!

It must be your location or time you want, I have early in the week after 3 and can always get a slot a couple of days before.

I used to but don't bother now as its easy to get a slot, the times I book well in advance is if we have been away and I want a slot the afternoon we get home.

LuckysDadsHat · 25/05/2024 11:30

It's a local thing. I have plenty of slots for tomorrow available and every day next week. I book 4 weeks in advance anyway, have the same slot every week.

According to yesterdays delivery driver - they are implementing a new system across the entire company - stores and warehouse including delivery. All hours of employment are to be strictly as per contract - 91/2 hours per day if full time and 5 hours of part time. Up to now, overtime has been available and taken up by staff, but not anymore on the new system. So there are lots of infilled working hours - which means less delivery slots/people doing overtime to fullfill orders/stock shelves/do store deliveries.
Dh also works for Tesco and confirms this is also hitting overnight store deliveries as hgv hours for drivers are being cut and staff aren’t in store to help with deliveries.
Basically a shit show for several weeks.

m edit to add. The computer says everything should be done within the core hours available!

Wasn't there a priority list introduced during lockdown, age based? Maybe that is still in play here for your mum. 🤔

CameToASuddenArborealStop · 25/05/2024 20:04

I used to be able to book a slot at the end of the week on Monday or Tuesday, but now I’m having to book two weeks in advance. I’d do more, but the app only allows two slots at once.

I’m hoping it goes back to normal soon as it’s annoying having to book so far in advance and lock in the time, something always comes up that means a different time would have been better.

You might find your street is on the boundary for a different store. My mum & I live near each other too but her shopping comes from a totally different store to mine. It's crazy. Were in the same village

Redglitter · 25/05/2024 20:09

Slots here are fine too. There's a choice of several showing for tomorrow and all time slots free from Sunday onwards

belleissmart · 25/05/2024 20:10

We haven't got a problem booking a slot but they are NEVER on time any more. Upto 90 mins late each time. Driving me mad

WeAllHaveWings · 25/05/2024 20:15

Weekends are harder to get here if I leave too late, but mid weekend never a problem.

I book my regular Sunday slot a week in advance now.

chattyness · 25/05/2024 20:17

It's always been like that for us ,we're a remote-ish village and there's high demand for them here so I had to book 3 weeks in advance and keep checking for cancellations, none of the other stores delivered ,then last year morrisons started doing click and collect from a carpark in the village and it's helped ease the demand a bit, but I don't like them much so I stick to tesco. I signed up for delivery saver last year and now book a date every couple of weeks & can get a slot booked 4 weeks in advance . If I need anything in between I buy locally or look for a cancellation

LuckysDadsHat · 26/05/2024 07:45

I just looked again this morning and I could get a slow for 7pm this evening. It really does seem location specific.
