I’d keep it very simple.
So 13 people in all!

2-3 sausages each - I’d get about 30+
Burgers - at least one each plus buns - Large bowl of onions cooked-I do them in the microwave with a little sprinkling of water so they soften.
I’d get some chicken drum sticks and make sticky sauce. Cook these in the oven and finish off on bar-b-que.
A large bowl of salad & a bowl of coleslaw
A large bowl of pasta with some cheese, dressing and herbs
Some french stick and butter
I’d make a couple of large jugs of a Non-alcoholic fruit drink - like a Pims. Use cheap lemonade and some squash or fruit juice.
Cans of beer, coke, lemonade
Plus wine or Prosecco.
Get the teenagers to put up some Bunting in the garden and some solar string lights.
Shop bought Choc ices, ice-cream in freezer for dessert OR a large bowl of strawberries with cream.
PS: large packet of paper napkins
Job done

What’s your budget? Are you steaks and a salmon or bog standard bbq food?

OnehundredStars · 25/05/2024 08:09

I make a potato salad using mashed potato and onion (sometimes spring onion) and mayonnaise and it’s lovely

or you could do the same with pasta by stirring in mayo and peppers and red onion (you could add a bit of Cajun spice into the mayo)

corn on the cobs are nice

we love chicken skewers here and burgers and sausages

hat nice sauces eg sweet chilli

My staple bbq foods are sausages, burgers, lamb kebabs and halloumi. Very basic.
Also corn on the cob, coleslaw, a nice bread selection and a big bowl of salad with croutons are essential.

FlambeJones · 25/05/2024 09:16

It obviously depends what you like, I find burgers and sausages a bit meh although I know they are crowd pleasers,
The last party barbecue we had was sides of salmon cooked in foil with garlic, lemon and herbs,
lamb kofta,
chicken in lime, coriander and cumin marinade,
halloumi marinated in lemon and mint
a basic green salad,
watermelon with mint and feta,
Greek salad,
New potatoes,
Homemade focaccia
Pita breads,
Salsa verde
Hummus
Whipped feta

Eton mess or brownies and ice cream for pudding

I tend to allow for 1.5 portions pp of things like the salmon and 2-3 of everything else.

We're doing chicken on the bbq with flat breads, Greek feta salad, tzatziki, chips etc to make Greek gyros. You could do some burgers/sausages alongside for the teenagers with some red onion, fancy cheese and sauce etc to top them. Simple but delicious.

Oblomov24 · 25/05/2024 09:25

Yum.

mitogoshi · 25/05/2024 09:27

13 people allow 16 -20 burgers as sold in 4's, 30+ sausages, chicken drumsticks or wings, ideally ready marinated for ease, 2 each ideally that's plenty.

Or drop the burgers and do pork steaks, steak, or koftas? Adjust quantities if having more types of meat. Bag of salad for garnish as no one really wants it at a bbq!

mitogoshi · 25/05/2024 09:29

If you have time, bamboo skewers with onion, courgette, pepper and halloumi goes down well too but personally unless there's veggies I'd go meat fest

longdistanceclaraclara · 25/05/2024 09:47

I'm not a sausage and burger bbq person, I'd get a couple of shoulders of lamb and a couple of chickens, cook beer can style. Flat breads, Greek salad, hummous, tzatziki etc or get a load of chicken breast and proper skewers and make tandoori chicken or shawarma chicken.

PennyPugwash · 25/05/2024 09:54

We also always do lots of baked potatoes in foil in the over and finished off on the BBQ.
Everyone loves them
Filling and cheap!x

OrlandointheWilderness · 25/05/2024 10:15

Pork belly goes down well here. Aldi do a fab salt and chilli one but it is hot! They also do a maple one. I do in oven for 45 mins at 150 then finish on BbQ. Chicken too, again in the oven. Burgers/sausages. Cheese and onions, sauces. I make coleslaw and potato salad. Then cous cous etc.

Somersetcallingme · 25/05/2024 12:30

We like a chicken with tikka or tandoori rub- top tip I got was buy the dry rub packet and use a squirt of mayonnaise instead of yogurt- sticks better and the oil helps it bbq. It tastes great and is simple to do.

Then some sausages and burger, potatoes salad and whatever sides you like.

AlwaysFreezing · 25/05/2024 12:40

For side salads in a hurry, go to morrisons. Get medium or large salad bar tubs. Fill with one item. So, if your lot live noodles, fill a large container with the noodles. Etc. If you buy mediums, remember they are in the meal deal, get the drinks and snacks!

Morrisons also do deli quiches (whole ones are a fiver) and things like empanadas, spring rolls, samosas, bhajis. Make sure you have ketchup and any other sauces. Napkins maybe. Coleslaw and potato salad. It's the quickest and easiest way to do it.

Then you just need the sausages and burgers and associated buns.

Enjoy!
