What would be the most likely way for a 20-year-old university student to communicate with friends and family?

I’m guessing not SMS text anymore?

My daughter chats to me and family on WhatsApp.
Between themselves I believe it's Snapchat.

Thanks, @ASighMadeOfStone, that makes sense.

WhatsApp here. Just us and group ones

imessage, WhatsApp and Facetime are what my son uses to communicate with me and other family members. I think Snapchat is what he uses with people of his own age. Maybe also WhatsApp with girlfriend.

Family / wider family ? WhatsApp

Putting pictures up for friends ? Instagram

Between themselves and others of similar age ? Snapchat

Groups - eg Teams at University - WhatsApp

I've just finished 3rd year. Generally has been a mix of:

  • Snapchat /WhatsApp for course group chats and group projects.
  • Insta/Snapchat/Whatsapp for talking to friends and flatmates.
  • Facebook messenger for videocalling my parents
  • Zoom/Microsoft Teams for meetings

DS and his friends use Discord to speak to each other.

Changingmynameyetagain · 25/05/2024 00:45

DS1 uses Discord and Snapchat, DS2 uses Snapchat and DD uses discord to chat to their mates.
They use WhatsApp to message me or their dad.
sms to text grandma as she doesn’t do apps.
