I've been looking at shoes in brand new with tags category,
I've seen a pair that I like . They are from John Lewis but the box shown with the shoes has John Lewis crossed out in red marker pen.
The shoes themselves are marked John Lewis so I'm wondering why red marker pen has been applied to the box.

Does anyone know?

It usually means they have been reduced in price in a sale. They mark the box so people don’t try and scam an exchange at full price with no receipt.
