What to do in London next Thursday with an 11 year old boy

Hi!

We are coming down to London for the day to watch a show (starts at 2.30). I have booked a place in Soho for food but wanted to book/arrange something for the morning so we aren’t just wondering around killing time. We live a few hours away but have been to London loads so wanted something a bit different or something I might not know
about. We arrive in London at 9ish (come into Euston) . Can anyone recommend anything good that will keep the interest of an 11 going on 21 year old boy?

thanks

I went to to Novelty Automation with my then-13yo and 9yo DC (after a recommendation on Mumsnet as it happens!) and they both really enjoyed it. I did too :)

It's small, but great fun, and something a bit different.

It's in Holborn, not far from the British Museum. More info on Trip Advisor:

We went to Forbidden Planet after, and my 13yo enjoyed taking ages choosing an Anime graphic novel.

leake street graffiti

I'd second the automaton museum (really good fun) and the Lego exhibit.

Churchill's war rooms are good if he's into that sort of history.

Postal Museum is good.

Loads of good escape rooms.

Tour of closed down tube stations/tunnels are good if there is one on.

I was going to say what @parttimeweddingplanner said. At that age mine liked forbidden planet. They didnt seem massively thrilled about the automation museum but they were a bit older when I took them

If he's into football, there is a special event over a few days for the Champions League final. They're closing some of Regent Street and having family football related stuff, also trafalgar square, somerset house. Look at

I'm going in tomorrow for a show at 2.30 and making the 17 year old come with me to Belgravia in Bloom. He will not be interested. I don't care 😂As long as he gets food after he will deal with it. On Sunday morning I'm taking him to this https://delightexhibit.com/london/ but I'm not sure I would have at 11. He might like https://bubble-planet.com/london/

A second recommendation for the Gunpowder Plot experience.

Another vote for the automaton museum - my DS11 and I both absolutely loved it.

CosyMosy · 25/05/2024 10:37

Thank you so much. He loves football so will definitely go to the champions league stuff and will have a look at everything else that’s been recommend. Thanks again

Thank you for the Champions league recommendation, we have spent the morning there and really enjoyed it, and all totally free as well!
