Robot Wars - Suitable for 8 year old?

Just wondering if anyone had seen the newer Robot Wars (2016/17) and could comment on suitability for 8 yo ds?

I remember my brothers watching the original series and it was pretty harmless.
I can be a bit fussy though! 😅

I loved Robot Wars it was on C4 after school, early evening in the 90s so definitely suitable.

And scrap heap challenge!

Or was it BBC2?

CelesteCunningham · 23/05/2024 23:12

I'd happily let my 6yo watch it and she still happily watches cbeebies at times. Obviously the concept in itself is a bit violent/destructive but if you're fine with that (I would be) then work away. It's very much in the spirit of the ones we watched growing up.

I imagine most 8yos would love it tbh!

Is it on iPlayer? Must check it out with the DDs.

My suggestion is watch an episode first so you can decide but my opinion is yes.

iv watched them all over the years a lot of the teams in it have kids driving the robots or having helped build them and if you look at the audience watching there are kids in it too

RubyGemStone · 23/05/2024 23:19

I can't think why it wouldn't be suitable for a child of any age. Probably best you watch and judge for yourself if you have niche requirements.

Gosh! I'd forgotten that and Scrapheap Challenge. Both essential viewing in our house when DS was in reception & Yr1.

My 5yo loves Robot Wars! His favourite is Sir Killalot!

spiderlight · 23/05/2024 23:45

Yes, mine was 9 when it was on in 2016 and absolutely loved it. We ended up buying some of the older series on DVD because he loved it so much, especially Hypno-Disc.

Oneminutespeace1 · 24/05/2024 03:16

Thank you so much for all the really helpful replies. Fairly unanimous that it should be suitable! Not sure whether or not the episodes are on i-player but the 2016/17 ones are available on DVD.

I didn't know you could get those episodes on dvd. DD was in them, so I'll look to get one for her.

Oh absolutely, it's very wholesome really! My 8 year old loves it, watches on Youtube (under supervision.)

Bewareofthisonetoo · 29/06/2024 07:46

Anyone remember dishy dad - Ian??? - in it with his kids?

scissy · 29/06/2024 08:19

We go and see its successor (Extreme Robots) every year. There are plenty of 8 year olds in the audience and live it is LOUD 😂
You can find clips on YouTube and many of the competitors are the ones from Robot Wars.

My 6 yo DS loves it. He’s very into building things and Lego. I’m extremely fussy as he’s ASD and very sensitive.
