What's this headache?

thedendrochronologist · 23/05/2024 18:50

Had it since 1.30

It's one sided and it won't go away. Had two paracetamols and two ibuprofen at 5pm

Went swimming to see if it would shift it but had to get out after half a set (500m) now feel sick.

Is this just a simple migraine or a bad headache?

I do get migraines but I cannot function and have lie down and sleep as the pain is severe.

So what is it and how can I get rid?

I'm guessing you're asking because it's different to your usual migraines? How are you with light? Can you touch your chin to your chest?

Have you got anyone with you keeping an eye on you?

thedendrochronologist · 23/05/2024 19:19

Yes I'm fine at home with DH lights fine and no stiff neck

Just surprised it hasn't gone with all those painkillers!

I'm having bite to eat then bed.

A severe migraine for me is severe pain cannot get up and in bed for a day or two to shift it-

Sounds like it, but any concerns please contact 111 for advice.

Try some caffeine (regular coke is good!), eat something sweet and grab a hot water or wheat bag to put over your eyes/other areas of pain and see how you go.

I empathise Flowers

I agree about caffeine.

Have a coke or a coffee and go to bed. I have a cold compress thing that I keep in the fridge, which helps too.

Much sympathy!

Because it a headache Confused

I'm sure the NHS can't do anything other than tell me to go to bed.

It's just odd that it didn't go after two paracetamol and ibuprofen. Didn't even get better.

I got one sided headaches that sort of came up from the back of my neck and over to around my eye that painkillers didn't touch.

I ended up getting an injection in the back of my neck - an occipital nerve block I think. Not suggesting you need that after one headache, just suggesting maybe it's neck related?

thedendrochronologist · 23/05/2024 19:40

I've had a sweet pudding and a Aldi fake Pepsi max! Of to bed

Migraine just not as bad as your normal ones.

aSpanielintheworks · 23/05/2024 20:00

I'm a migraine sufferer, with varying degrees of severety.
Do you take Triptans?
Some migraines knock me for six, but others I can just about work through. I can never sleep them off, I can rattle around with paracetamol, aspirin, caffeine, ibuprofen, to no effect, doesn't even take the edge off.
Once it's settled on one side the only thing that gets rid is a Triptan.
And they are miracle workers for migraine.

thedendrochronologist · 23/05/2024 20:12

Reaching the conclusion it's a mild migraine too thanks everyone.

I have Triptans but they give me a horrible sensation in my nose as I suppose they are vasodilators

I only can take them if I am lying down!

Thankfully the headache is gone and now just feel a bit shit!

It's funny isn't it? I can take a Triptan, set a watch for 30 minutes and know it will lift a migraine in that time with Zero side effects at all. My DS, also a sufferer, says they work but he gets numbness in his fingers, dizziness and heartburn. He'd rather suffer the headache!

Apollo365 · 23/05/2024 22:24

I have paracetamol then ibruprofen. If this doesn’t work I try caffeine, sugar then salty (like crisps) finally ice lollies. Sometimes it takes 5…
it’s a puzzle 🤣
oh I forgot shower on jet on my head works too.
