Help me choose a new iphone please!

My iPhone 7 is so old now,I am having to charge it several times a day.

I want to get a newer one (doesn’t need to be brand new).

I want to stick with an iPhone and I like the size of the 7 as it’s easy to hold (I know some of the newer ones are bigger).

Can anyone recommend a newer iPhone that they use that like and might be suitable and not too expensive?

I have second hand 12. And it is much better than my older iphone.
I chose very good condition. Had it about 6 months, hoping it will last a 2-3 years.

I have a 12 and love it, but previously went from the 7 to the X, which was also a very good phone.

I also have an SE 2022 for work. Both that and my mini 13 are great phones. Nice size and easy to use.
I've never seen anyone with another mini but seems a few of us on this thread have them and are happy with them!

Another vote for SE but my older SE won’t update some apps

I have a 14 pro max - look on backmarket

I just go on music magpie or giffgaff and get a refurb for £300-ish. I haven’t had a contract since iPhone 4.

Make sure to get plenty of memory, you always need more than you think.

I tend the get the most bashed up level of refurb because I always put them straight in a case and slap a screen protector on anyway so it doesn’t need to be pristine.

@TwinklyTraybake Does your DS like his SE 2022? How old is he if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve just ordered my DS (11) an iPhone SE and I’m hoping he will be happy with it. It’s a smaller model compared to the others as you say (same size as a 7) and I hope it will be ok for him.

He’s 10, got it for Christmas and he loves it!

I've gone from an 8 to a 13 and it's great. It is a bit bigger but still manageable for my average size hands! Can I suggest that you look in to reconditioned phones if you haven't already? There are good reductions to be had and the one I used - Backmarket - took back my old phone and I got a little refund. There are other companies obviously, but I used this one and found them very efficient.

BearSoFair · 24/05/2024 10:36

I have a 13 Pro and it's ok...but I preferred the 11 Pro I had before. For me, it was perfect. Upgraded because of battery life and to be honest I haven't found the 13 much better, 5-10% more left at the end of a day and that may purely be down to it having better battery health.

Groovee · 24/05/2024 10:43

I had the iPhone SE 2022, but went for a iPhone 14. I got used to it being bigger quickly.

MidnightMeltdown · 24/05/2024 12:09

I've got a 13 mini which is perfect for me.

Before that I had an 8 plus which I didn't really like. Far too big and heavy. Before that I had an iPhone 6 which was my favourite of all as it was nice and slim. I don't know why Apple seem to have gone backwards in terms of making things chunkier.

I wouldn't buy an iPhone this time of year though as new ones will be out in a few months. Even if you don't buy the latest model, the price of older ones tends to drop.

ImOddsAndEnds · 24/05/2024 12:18

I've got a 15 Pro currently and the 13 & 14 versions were far better. I'd probably recommend the 13, really lightweight and doesn't hurt like a mother fucker if you drop it right between your eyes when you're lay in bed scrolling Grin

Ginkypig · 24/05/2024 12:30

I recently did what you did

I had the iPhone 7. Battery wasn’t great anymore etc

i got a se (2022) off eBay for £345 looked brand new in box (you get yours where you want) and it’s great

it’s the same size as the 7 so my case still fits it and feels the same in my hand. you can search iPhone 7 cases as they can be a bit cheaper.

feels like the phone I had already but better battery and internals.

obviously in iPhones it’s still old but it’s still a big jump for iOS updates from the 7

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 24/05/2024 12:35

I upgraded from the XR (which is probably similar in terms of size and handholdyness to the 7) to the 13 and it’s fantastic. Easy to hold, good size, so easy to use and it does what I want it too rather then get hot and stop working.

also one charge generally lasts a full day even with small children playing shit on it for an hour, Spotify playing, serious amount of insta doom scrolling.

I almost bought the 14 but guy in the shop said no point, it’s no better the. The 13 whatsoever and is more expensive.

Carock · 24/05/2024 12:37

There is an ex Apple employee popular on tik tok (Tyler Morgan) who insists if you want a new iPhone right now and want to watch your money - don’t go higher than a 13. I have to agree tbh.

1dayatatime · 24/05/2024 12:38

iPhone 12 with a badly cracked screen that is glitchy as hell. But it does the job and I am determined to keep it going for as long as possible.
