Anyone had a new bathroom in the last couple of years?

If anyone has had a new bathroom in the last couple of years, did you have tiles or wall panels? Also, what colour, pattern did you go for? Also, what flooring did you chose.

In our last house, we knew exactly what we wanted. This time, nothing is inspiring me and DH seems to be the same. In reality, I'd probably like blue which is what we had in our old house, but it doesn't seem to be an in colour any more. Haven't seen any tiles I like that are blue either.

Yes two.

Renovating a house.

One was wall panels the other tiles. I chose a morroccan design (love Morocco)

I went with wall panels in grey stone.

When we fixed the shower in old house about 4 years ago, we shower boarded it, so that the tiles didn't need to match - ie tiles in most of bathroom, but board in shower cubicle.

Did a full bathroom in new house, and tiled (large format) wet areas.

Wood look laminate on the floor.

Tiles all pretty neutral and boring, with then the ability to paint, in whatever colour we love or is fashionable, the wall.

Marble tiles in dark green, floor tiles black and white.

Yes, two.

In both, I went for half tile all round (and full wall in shower enclosure) - just white flat metro tiles. White suite with black fixtures, navy walls in one, pink walls in the other. White ceilings, doors and skirting. Both rooms have Amtico tiles for flooring. Green vanity in pink bathroom, white in the blue bathroom. Nothing patterned other than the floor tiles (terrazo style).

I think it very much depends on the style and period of house. Our house is Victorian so I went for something I thought would enhance and complement these features. It also needs to flow in terms of style from the other rooms in the house. It would be helpful to see some pics of the rest of the house to give an idea about what might look good in the bathroom!

Yes! Having it done at the moment and SO excited! Went for something we loved rather than a trend.

Dark green hexagonal floor tiles in a jungle print with pink accents.
Huge rectangular dark green marble tiles halfway up the walls and full height behind the shower.
Baby pink metro tiles in herringbone stripe from the sink to ceiling height (behind large mirror).
White suite and remaining walls, brushed gold hardware on everything.

So far we only have floor tiles but I am obsessed!

Part way through at the moment. We've gone for large rectangular tiles on the walls, matt finish white concrete colour - white with a very slight grey swirl. Light grey grout. Floor we've picked light oak LVT.

Panels in the shower, sparkly turquoise ( nicer than it sounds , honestly) . Slightly darker teal walls, with a seascape mural on the biggest (I’m a painter). The rest of the walls were already white tiles to five foot, quite new so kept them, ditto ‘wood’ floor board tiles. Wooden worktops.

It makes me smile every morning.

Moss green metro tiles in the shower cubicle and to a dado elsewhere, a putty-coloured paint above. These on the floor. It turned out really well. My bath is my nightly delight.

300×600 tiles for both the floor and walls in a rather safe marble pattern

I did look at wall panels but my plumber out me off, as did friends who have had problems with leaks

SiobhanSharpe · 23/05/2024 11:31

I really wanted wall/shower panels and in an aqua colour but they worked out very expensively (and we were doing two shower rooms at nce and it was over 20k anyway) so we had large plain-ish, textured white tiles with a double line of aqua coloured brick shaped tiles going round the walls at about shoulder height.

Sunnyside4 · 23/05/2024 11:56

'caringcarer' - are you pleased with the panels? Will probably go for traditional tiles, but I like panels as they'll be no grout to go dirty and I guess we could put add extra sealant if that started to look grubby.

@Sunnyside4 I have panels too and think they are awesome! Like you say, no grout to clean!! My 'theme' was terracotta-ish but I have NO interior design skills so the room still looks unfinished 4 years later!

I really like the sound of that, bet it looks amazing when finished 😍

Thanks for your replies. I'll do a search and see what I can find - then need to agree with DH!
