Hi was just wondering how long it took other people to receive their backdated payment from child benefit if you applied by ringing them up. My son is 6 months old and first child and rang up yesterday and unsure if he said i’ll get the backdated payment within 5 working days or i will get it after my claim has been processed up to 12 weeks

I'm applied on the 6th April , online . Iv had a text confirming they have received my application and have heard nothing else . I'm not even sure how long it takes .

If you were eligible for Child Benefit before HMRC got your claim, it will be automatically backdated - up to a maximum of 3 months. This means you'll get an extra 1, 2 or 3 months' of Child Benefit included in your first payment.

i’ve heard this happen to a lot of people where online claims weren’t processed due to an error try call them up x

You'll get a maximum of three months backpay and it could be up to 12 weeks (in theory) to process your claim.

Have you got proof of application? Ring again and take some notes, ask for notes to be put on your account. You will have to push, be specific, ask for dates and times.

I applied about 5 weeks ago and haven't recieved anything yet

I applied by calling them but haven’t had a text message to say they have recieved it or anything but i know some people who recently have been payed back payment within 5 days after applying by phone so hoping it goes in soon

I got a call yesterday , to say that my claim has been approved . I applied on the 6th April .
