I had 7 years no claims , and I've been driving 15 years .
I had an accident where i went into the back of someone , they decided to claim ......fair enough and I didn't claim as the damage was minimal to my car .
I've got my renual due next month so I thought I'd see what my insurance could be if I had no claims bonus because the accident was on there .

I currently pay £50pm . The cheapest on compare the market was £177 !!!! .
That's more than what I was paying when I first past my test .
I'm super stressed because I need my car for work and kids school , paying that will cause me not not eat 🙃

What can I do ?

We are having the same problem at the moment. Our insurance is up for renewal and has quite literally doubled from 200 to 400 a year. We have t changed anything, had any accidents or made any claims. Its crazy. Spoke to the insurance company and they would not / could not lower it all. They just said that everyone has had an increase.

It’s absolute insanity at the minute. I’ve just got a new car this week and got in touch to swap my insurance over to the new car.
My new car is exactly the same as my old one. Same make, model, engine size. The only difference is it’s 1year newer and they wanted to put my insurance up from £50pm to £138pm!

Well, nothing. You have to insure your car if you want to keep it and you presumably didn't protect your no claims and then drove into the back of someone so it was obviously going to go up. It's shit but it's probably not a surprise?

Have you checked with your current insurer ? You might be pleasantly surprised . We paid £250 last year , ran it through with comparison sites couldn't beat £340 called 1st Central they were only £170 !

I'm waiting for the renewal to come through and I'll see what they offer .

I expected it to go up but not triple.
and unfortunately every penny counts so I couldnt afford to protect .

Wgy Did you just want to point out the obvious and be unhelpful .

Because in your OP you seemed genuinely baffled that it had gone up.

You didn't say it in a venty "argh this is horrendous, what a pain in the arse" kind of way you said it in a "I cannot believe this is a thing, what can I magically do to make it reduce", and the answer is probably diddly squat because you didn't protect your no claims (do this from now on) and you had an accident.

Your error here is getting a quote with no NCD.

For a minor fairly low-value claim your current insurer will likely knock your NCD down by a couple of years. (I wrote my car off in a no-fault accident - tyre blew on the motorway - and only lost 2 years as there were no injuries. DSD went in the back of someone at lights, damage to both cars but again no injuries and she lost 3)

It might not be as bad as you think!
