Omaze Surrey House

I'm looking at the latest Omaze house in Surrey and wondering if it's just me who finds it a strangely configured house?

Why would you need a "kitchenette" in the middle of your bedrooms when there's a massive Kitchen/Dining room mere feet away?

Why are there 2 really small bedrooms shoehorned in next to a much larger study!? The utility room is bigger than one of the bedrooms. So bizarre!

Oooh - do you have a link? I've never looked closely at them before.

SurreyMumOfOne · 21/05/2024 12:53

I found it. Yes there are a few odd things aren't there! Not sure if you'd even get a decent sized bed in either of those two smaller rooms.

And kitchenette is also odd.

But I actually quite like it overall. Need some clever mners to work out where it is and what's wrong with before I lose £10 on a ticket!!

Yes, it's potentially a lovely house - just someone's made some odd choices along the way.

I find this with most of the Omaze houses though. When I look at the floor plans and think about how my family would live in it I realise I've got more practical space in my terrace. It's saved me a fortune in tickets 😂

I couldn't work out why bedroom 4 is behind the study, so you'd have to walk past someone who is working to get in and out. I thrilled my husband (who loves hearing about the Omaze houses every month 😈) with a monologue about how I'd make the study a library and use the bedroom as a study, then I realised that there are two enormous windows, an entrance to the kitchen and the bedroom door in the study so there is no wall space for bookcases or storage whether you use it as a library or an office. Also, the 4th bedroom is nowhere near the others, so you wouldn't want to put small children in there either. It's a box room, really.

I assumed the kitchenette was for drinks on the terrace, or maybe a milk kitchen for a Jewish family. It's bothered me less than the study/bedroom issue though.

That's why these houses are in Omaze raffles.

Someone wants to recoup what they've spent buying and doing up a house but, as you say, has made some odd choices and consequently potential buyers won't offer what the vendors want.

So Omaze buys the house for top dollar, the winner gets a house for not much money and can afford to sell it for less than the original vendors wanted, knowing they've still made a profit.

Found it.

It's Sandalwood, Long Hill, The Sands, Farnham, Surrey, GU10 1NG. Long Hill is a private road so not on Google Streetview.

You can see it here https://www.wellswoodhomes.co.uk/copy-of-rosewood. Wellswood Homes do "Luxury new builds and renovations in Surrey, Hampshire and surrounding areas". Somebody presumably did the house up after buying it in March 2012 for £1,210,000.

It does seem to be a bit of an odd layout. But perhaps the study/bedroom 4 combo could be used by DC with parents able to keep an eye on them from the kitchen. The bedroom is just for sleeping in and the study is a playroom or to do homework and have friends round for tweens/teens?

The kitchenette is for teens or a live in nanny/au pair to get snacks and drinks without disturbing their parents when they're entertaining?

GeeMa2208 · 30/06/2024 07:04

I’ll definitely look at the layout. My hubby is addicted to Omaze with a view to just selling on.

DilemmaDelilah · 30/06/2024 09:00

It is an odd layout but I could make it work! It's in an area I would love to live in and it has an indoor swimming pool. Nuff said.

GeeMa2208 · 30/06/2024 18:23

Swimming pool looks lovely but all I can think about is how much it would cost to run.

Well that's a tenner saved! Farnham is OK, but nowhere near as nice as it thinks it is!

I grew up in this area. A lot of people have live in staff so going to assume the kitchenette is for the nanny/ porter/ chef whoever.

Im seeing the study/ bedroom combo as two children’s rooms off a play room area.Or potentially a wing for gran or spare rooms.

WhatsitWiggle · 30/06/2024 18:44

Before and after of the floorplan - I think the old layout was better. I'm presuming the owners did it to their needs, but anyone else after a 5 bedroom home is just finding it all a bit weird hence it being on Omaze.

Ooh I’d not noticed the kitchenette before!

Peedoff24 · 30/06/2024 22:57

The old layout was so much better!

I think I’d rather have decent bedroom sizes than a kitchenette for staff.
