I feel like they are higher beings. Like elves maybe. Nothing processed. Just 2 duck breasts and some bok choi and spring onions, and a packet of raw almonds. Maybe a jar of smoked paprika.

I try and feed us all healthily and I mostly think I do okay until I'm lining up next to one of these elves and I have a packet of hobnobs, and a box of cornflakes, and a tin of flavoured tuna for DS's sandwiches, and bread, of course, and a box of frozen breaded fish fillets because there's no time to cook on Wednesdays, and some of that flavoured porridge as a treat so DD will get up early without complaining, and a bag of crisps for me (I deserve a treat), and a plastic tub of spreadable Olivio for lunchboxes, ready made falafel and a squirty aioli because it was on offer, and ... and...

I like to imagine that somewhere, in another life, I am buying one whole fish and an entire head of purple cabbage. Some persimmons. Coriander, silverbeet, rabbit kidneys...

These people clearly don't have teenage boys at home! Or they would have a trolley full of snacks that the teenage locusts attack as soon as the shopping crosses the front door.

Great you have given me a glimpse of my future 😂I have a nearly 2 year old who mainly says things like 'baamama' 'beed (bread)' 'oogurt' to me and another boy due in a few weeks.

I can buy just one pepper, lol.
Never noticed veg+meat only purchasers.
Here it's more likely to be booze & fags only.

Wish I could!

I went in for 4 crusty rolls, came out with blackberries, raspberries, a water colouring book and a pan au chocolat!

I saw a woman leaving Lidl this morning with just one pepper?

How do you go in and not buy anything else along the way?!!

Not even 1 pepper, a horse blanket and an angle grinder?

If they were that virtuous they wouldn't be in a supermarket, it would be homegrown or farmer's markets or the local bougie grocer and butcher!

Is it even possible to buy strawberries that aren't tiny and shot to shit in a supermarket? Spain etc keep all the best for themselves, and the British ones are even worse. By the time they're in the fridge they look like they've done a few rounds with Tyson Fury.

BobnLen · 21/05/2024 10:45

Probably online shoppers that prefer to choose their own meat and veg, I often do this

GingerPirate · 21/05/2024 10:48

Sorry, that would go right through me.
I realise about the healthy food, but for me it's just not tasty enough.
Proper junkie here, but lots of physical work as well.
So far so good.

Unless the teenage boy is on a gym/protein kick, in which case the trolley is pretty much just chicken, rice and veg! Or steaks if he had his way!

Ariela · 21/05/2024 10:54

I don't usually buy fruit and veg or meat from the supermarket, we grow our own veg all summer, and I buy from the farm shop / butchers/ local shops otherwise, leaving tinned/frozen/odds and sods on the supermarket list.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 21/05/2024 10:55

Don't believe the lie. My basket is only ever meat and vegetables. I have all the chocolate, biscuits and processed crap delivered.

ThePoshUns · 21/05/2024 10:57

People must think I'm a body builder the amount of meat and protein yogurts I have in my trolley for my two fitness freak adult DSs.
I also eat fairly healthily myself so lots of salad , fish and veg. No ready meals or junk.

Previousreligion · 21/05/2024 10:57

I used to have a trolley like this.

But now I get a veg and meat box delivered from a local farm, and I'm married to a DH who likes UPF. So if you see me in the supermarket I actually look like I have an appalling diet as I'll be stocking up on Diet Coke, coffee and crisps for him!

Can't judge a diet by the trolley!

GoodlifeGlow · 21/05/2024 11:06

I try and buy organic and cook everything from scratch (yes I’m an areshole). So if you saw me in Aldi my shopping basket would be mostly the handful of organic fruit, veg, milk and chocolate they sell. That being said I am partial to their waffle ice cream cones, they go adequately with my homemade ice cream and of course their loo roll….. I’m not that fussy when it comes to wiping my aforementioned arsehole.

This could be me. I do one big shop a month for non-perishables like tins and packets and jars then a weekly shop for perishables like meat, veg and fruit.

So if you've caught me on a 'perishables' shop then my trolly will look uber-healthy.

This is exactly what we do too, big delivery at the beginning of the month with tins and frozen food, then only physically shop for fruit/veg/meat. Although I have to say after listening to 'Ultra-processed people' on Audible, I do buy less and less of the packaged snacks and cereals, and we even make our own bread now.

amicissimma · 21/05/2024 11:13

This is sometimes me.

I like to buy meat, fruit and vegetables fresh, so I shop for them more frequently than I do dry goods. If other people do the same, you would expect to find a disproportionate number of people just buying meat and vegetables as they would shop for them more often.

Sgtmajormummy · 21/05/2024 11:19

The elves are probably on Keto.

I can’t wait until the family goes away and I’m dog sitting for a week. My trolley is going to contain ALL the frozen pizza, TV dinners, readymade soups, salads, yogurt pots, gimmicky crisps for binge-watching on the sofa and sliced meats galore…

The only person I’ll be harming is myself and cooking 14 healthy meals a week from scratch can feel close to drudgery sometimes…

Luckycloverz · 21/05/2024 11:22

Lol I'm one of these 'higher beings'

But only because all our processed items are in the home delivery but I specifically go pick my own fruit, veg & meat myself so it's fresh and not the bruised, furry 😱 and short dates items we kept getting in our deliveries...

That could be my husband - he is very focused and only gets what's on the list - whereas I have a wander up and down the aisles to see if there's anything else I need and come out with half the shop .

GerbilsForever24 · 21/05/2024 11:47

Mostly when I see people like that I just assume they're rich and have lots of time. We eat pretty healthily, very limited UHP food although we do have a fair bit of food that's probably classed as processed - eg cheese, tinned goods, high quality bread etc.

But I cant afford to make duck breasts with pak choi and green lentils as a regular meal or steak with a lovely side salad and new potatoes which we'd all love. I need to do at least a couple of nights a week with some sort of pasta bulked up with tinned tomatoes. And I don't have time to buy beans or chickpeas that need to be soaked for 12 hours before I cook them so yes, I use tinned chickpeas.

Mysticguru · 21/05/2024 11:49

That's me every three days. Would add nuts and berries.

Cazzovuoi · 21/05/2024 11:50

This is me without any veg. We’re both carnivore.

My trolley is full of meat, eggs, butter and fish. I eat Lindt 90% dark chocolate so you may see that in my trolly occasionally. DH likes 100% with stem ginger and we get that in the organic shop.

Absolutely!! And the speed at which it all disappears (so they each get their fair share before their sibling eats it all, so it goes in no time) is something to behold. Loaves of bread disappear in seconds. Eat like horses and still skinny as rakes. Lucky sods.😄

LaWench · 21/05/2024 11:57

This is my absolute goal. I buy my meat from the butchers, starting making my own bread and ice cream. I do still buy junk food and alcohol but I'd like it to be less.

Loadofbobbins · 21/05/2024 11:57

If you saw my shopping trolley, you would think my diet was amazing. It’s full of fresh veg every week. Tonnes of the stuff. But its all for the rabbits 🤣🤣🤣

BobnLen · 21/05/2024 11:57

Tesco delivers most of my shopping on Tuesday, the packets, Diet Coke and the other unhealthy stuff, I can be spotted in M&S or Waitrose on a Friday buying a few select things, often meat, fruit and veg though

redapplegreen · 21/05/2024 11:58

I am a "higher being", but I've been created not by choice but by circumstances, one of which being living in the middle of nowhere ( abroad) and processed/ ready made food hardly existing here.
