Been thinking about three of the recent state scandals:
- Infected blood
- Post Office prosecutions
- Cass review into youth gender treatment
A recurrent theme of these is our elected politicians looking away or worse, doubling down on the wrong doing. They have allowed themselves to be 'captured' by un-elected organisations and pressure groups. They have failed to apply critical or independent thinking to these issues.
You dont need to be a scientist/doctor/IT consultant to look at what has happened and think 'Really? This doesnt sound right'. To look at the person who is expecting you to just go along with the 'nothing to see here' position and think 'Why dont you want me to look more closely?'
Why do our politicians do this?
- Laziness - cba attitude
- Self-serving - dont rock the boat to get personal advancement
- Lack of intelligence - not understanding so just going along with it
We have another election coming up. How do we make sure that the next batch of our elected representatives realise that their job is to question, apply critical thinking, challenge?
