So today I was checking out the porridge selection in our cupboard. Found a box of Scott’s porridge oats . Looked at the sell by date and it was July 2019 !! Can anyone beat that 🤦‍♀️

At the risk of being accused of pedantry - if the date was a sell-by date, then there’s no issue, is there, because I presume you bought it before then…

I think you must mean best before. Which can safely be ignored as long as there’s nothing questionable growing on it, and the mice haven’t got in*

*this may or may not have happened in my pantry

When helping my mum clear our her kitchen cupboards to move house a few years ago I found a box with bottles of food colouring with old fashioned price labels on and priced up at 7p. Couldn't find a use by date but I'm guessing they must have been a few decades old!

And your Mum survived 😊I am so obsessed with sell by dates for fresh food it has surprised me how I didn’t notice this for nearly 5 years!
