My dad's partner died of cancer a few days ago, he and I were with her when she died, and I've brought him home with me until the funeral (and probably permanently). He's got Alzheimer's and his partner was his carer. He's been looking pained and twisting his shoulder, he said it's just a spot, but I made him show me his back and found this. It looks just like the squamous cell carcinoma he's had removed before, only it's enormous. He's lost weight and is pale and more vague and breathless than usual, but I thought it was just grief Sad

This is really fucking bad, isn't it? He survived stage 4 lymphoma in 2017 and has a heart condition. I have a doctor calling me back from 111, but should I just take him to A&E?

I'm so glad you've finally had someone "look after you" well done to your GP. Am thinking of you x

TheBloatedMiddle · 06/06/2024 14:21

Have lurked from the beginning and just posting to say very best of luck. Thanks

MrsKeats · 06/06/2024 14:30

Have been watching this thread. Really hoping things improve and some treatment can get underway op.

Clarefromwork · 06/06/2024 14:46

Fingers crossed for good news today OP

I did send you a message a few weeks ago, obviously you don’t need to reply but just incase you didn’t see!

stayathomegardener · 06/06/2024 15:07

Think of you, waiting for results is horrid so glad they will be quick.

Funderthighs · 06/06/2024 15:58

Keeping 🤞 for you.

dunBle · 06/06/2024 17:04

Oh excellent! I'm so glad things have moved on a bit more for you today. And even if the blood test aren't good news, at least it'll mean you have a better idea of where things are likely to be heading rather than a whole heap of uncertainty.

It's good to see your DH's job situation appears to be looking up a bit too. Hope he's feeling better as well.

@sprigatito it won’t be a family WhatsApp group, it will be a ‘Frank’s update group’.

Label it like that and send the invitation to anyone who asks. You can set it so you are the only one allowed to post in it.

I agree with this, they don’t need to talk to each other, if they want the information they can join the group. I think at some point you’ve got to draw a line as it’s entirely unfair on you to have to handle the difficulty of this and then individual people’s quibbles with each other.

Throckmorton · 06/06/2024 18:56

Many crossed fingers for you for good blood test results!

EnglishBluebell · 06/06/2024 20:56

sprigatito · 06/06/2024 12:26

If those blood results are normal I think I'll collapse with relief!

Hope you're ok Flowers

Mirabai · 06/06/2024 21:13

I hope the results come in tomorrow if they haven’t today.

I’ve got to get up at 5.30 am tomorrow take my dad for surgery relating to his cancer. I will be thinking of you.

sprigatito · 06/06/2024 21:28

The results didn't come back in time this evening, but I'm not moaning about it, it's still pretty fast if it's tomorrow.

@Mirabai I'll be thinking of you too, I hope all goes well with your dad.

Blood results are in, but the receptionist understandably couldn't interpret them for me so am waiting for a doctor to get in touch. Some of them were outside the normal range - the ones I can remember were: bone profile, renal function, ferritin, something about prostate and protein? I don't know what they mean 😞 really nervous now.

Glad they're back op, presume you've asked for a GP call back asap? Hope you get some answers asap. Any news on X-ray date?

GP should be calling back but no idea when. No news on the chest Xray or the excision yet.

Hope they don't leave you waiting too long OP.

I have to get regular blood tests. Just in case you’re not aware, the full blood tests results including normal ranges can be seen on the NHS app if your dad is registered with that.

Just mentioning as you said you can’t remember what the receptionist said, you may be able to see the results yourself.

sprigatito · 07/06/2024 11:34

Unfortunately none of us is registered on the app, I'm crap at that sort of thing. I don't suppose anyone can shed light on what those abnormalities might mean?

Without knowing your father it would be unhelpful guesswork.

Ponderingwindow · 07/06/2024 12:19

I can not emphasize enough how helpful it is to have access to your medical app if you have an introverted ASD brain. It’s a pain to set up, but once you have it going it will cut down on phone calls and help keep information organized. It’s really helpful and worth the initial setup, especially if dealing with a major health situation.

However NameQuestions is quite correct. I'm sure it will be best to discuss with the doctor.
