I drove through a no entry.

I'm a new driver and I really messed up today and went through a small no entry road, noticed the sign too late. A car came down and sat and waited for me to turn right which was really kind.. didn't want to reverse back into the oncoming traffic as felt that would be more dangerous than turning..

I came home, cried and now I'm waiting for the points.

Has anyone else done something like this or am I just the worst?

Was there a camera?

LancashireSquirrel · 19/05/2024 21:42

You're definitely overthinking, OP. This kind of thing happens all the time. There will be no points!

Relax. Smile

IncognitoUsername · 19/05/2024 21:42

What makes you think you are going to get points? Was there a camera?

MrMotivatorsLeotard · 19/05/2024 21:43

Ah OP don’t beat yourself up- no one died! Be glad that you made a driving mistake that didn’t cause harm to anyone.

Was there a camera?

There are these white things...
They look like lights to me but I'm not sure.

I feel such an idiot and so disappointed in myself

I drove through a no entry.

Do not overthink this.

You really learn to drive when you no longer have a driving instructor next to you.
You didn't cause any accident, it was a genuine error and you'll be more alert to signs in the future.

LancashireSquirrel · 19/05/2024 21:47

Yes, those are lights.

You are fine. I wouldn't give it another thought.

Those are lights, not cameras. Don't worry.

I turned the wrong way onto a one-way street the other day. It's really not worth catastrophising about. Nothing bad happened to you and ther won't be amy repercussions

fedupandstuck · 19/05/2024 21:48

They're lights. You won't get a ticket. Everyone makes mistakes, the thing is to learn from it. Don't beat yourself up excessively- just be aware of needing to check road signs before you commit to a manoeuvre.

ChangeAgain2 · 19/05/2024 21:48

Don't worry about it @Anxious404 . People make mistakes driving all the time. It's not a disaster. No one was hurt.

Tarkan · 19/05/2024 21:49

I used to live on a one way street, it was honestly a daily occurrence for people to drive along it the wrong way.

I'm now in a different town, and one street just off our one is one way at one end and again we've seen so many people go through the no entry sign.

That just looks like lights for the signs, you'll be fine and I'm sure you'll be extra vigilant with no entry signs from now on.

Marlena1 · 19/05/2024 21:49

My friend did this yesterday. I was navigating and told her to turn right but was staring at the phone! We were then laughing at a woman taking an age to park a huge SUV and laughing about all the women driving these huge cars (as we were facing the wrong way😳) All drivers make mistakes and that's how we learn.

TigerOnTour · 19/05/2024 21:50

Nobody died, don't worry. Even if you got a ticket/points, it's not the end of the world.

What i was going to say

OP its not a big deal and the things on the sign are lights
I doubt there was a CCTV there as if there is, usually the no entry sign has a notice EG, "no entry enforced by CCTV" or something like that

the bottom line, even if you are ticketed, it will be your first - genuine mistake and you realised it -

You've all been so kind, thank you.
Im just so scared of getting 3 points as that would mean one more cock up and I'd have my license revoked. I'd be letting my kids down massively :(

That's not going to happen, really don't worry.

as pps have said, it's easily done even for experienced drivers. there are so many no right turns/no entry signs, the vast majority don't have cctv so it's unlikely you'll be caught. Even if you do, it's not always points, I know people who have done similar and got a warning letter/fine instead.
