Day trip - London or Belfast

Our main holiday isn't until October this year, so I'm looking for some day trips to fill the summer. I have two ds's 9 and 13.

We could fly to either London or Belfast for under £100 for four of us, and spend the day. We'd fly early morning and return in the evening. Which do you think would be better option?

They are not keen on museums and sightseeing, but love food, gaming, fashion, science (the younger one) and sport.

Overnight is probably out of the question due to how our annual leave from work has been spread and the cost.

I'd recommend Belfast for a day trip. The airport is smaller, easier to get through so you might waste less time travelling, and from airport to/city central area is easy with buses too. It's also much cheaper in general.

With respect to science, check this out: https://w5online.co.uk/

On the sport side, if they look football, it might be interesting to visit https://www.irishfa.com/national-football-stadium-at-windsor-park/irish-fa-tours

W5 is an award-winning Science & Discovery Centre in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Part of the Odyssey Complex, W5 is a perfect day out for the whole family.

Thank you? I was swaying towards Belfast but also they've never been to London!

If you can fly into London City airport, you're in and out extremely quickly.

Which London airport do you have in mind?

I’ve never been to Belfast but it would be pretty exhausting to try and do London in a day. Especially with the time to get from/back to Heathrow.

Flying within the UK (presumably) on a day trip is really wrong. Go somewhere on the train instead.

Unless you can fly to City I would skip London. It takes over 1 hour just on the tube and you won't have time for a lot.

London got also really expensive and if you aren't into the usual sightseeing options you would run around finding other things to do.

Agree that unless it's London City Airport it's really not worth flying to London for a day.

It is far far cheaper for us to fly the distances we're looking at, and not really possible for day trips. Where would suggest going by train?

From central Scotland, we have done Glasgow and Edinburgh many, many times now by train and already have a Dundee/Perth trip planned. Inverness and Aberdeen are too far from us for a day trip.
