i was just thinking this would be great if this could somehow be added to threads in the same way a whattsap group has.

Just looking at some of the threads that OP has written opening post and then seemingly disappeared and people seem massively invested in.

OP posts:

How would MN know that the OP had gone & wasn’t coming back? Some OP’s take a while to respond because they’re busy. I think it’s easier to search all on the OP’s posts then you can see how many times they’ve responded.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 19/05/2024 18:22

I agree OP. If they have re registered their account, would be useful to know before taking time to give advice that will never be read.

Thetheytheyre · 19/05/2024 18:23

No idea of the logistics TBH and probably a fantasy function but were these things not an obstacle it would be very handy.

How would that work then?

Op posts a thread, decides they're not coming back, pushes a button to let everyone know they're not coming back?

Or have it on a timer? If the OP hasn't posted on their thread for 48 hours, it locks.m the thread?

If people are getting over invested, that's I them they're idiots if they do. Assume everything on MN is bullshit and made up by a sad fat 50 year old bloke in a basement, keeps the investment down..

👍

With a door slamming sound.

Bjorkdidit · 19/05/2024 18:24

People would probably ignore it just like they ignore the fact that the OP hasn't posted in days so they post something anyway, usually something that's already been said dozens if not hundreds of times.

UnaOfStormhold · 19/05/2024 18:24

Just keep an eye out for the "next post" button - if there isn't one, no more posts from the OP.

It wouldn't be possible.

just look to see if there's a 'next post'

TammyJones · 19/05/2024 18:33

Agree op.
There has been a lot of these just lately.
Someone said he was people doing research.
I wondered if there was a way to weed them out. (Apart from checking if op had made more than one post).

Ginkypig · 19/05/2024 19:02

Obviously your making a serious suggestion but yes it’s annoying and happens more frequently than I’d like!

I now scroll a bit and if it’s a long thread I go back and check op see all button before I get invested in reading properly because who can be fucked with 900 posts with no update!
