Any tips on helping child through GCSE English Lit tomorrow??

My daughter has been in tears all day over the pressure of the poetry element of tomorrow's GCSE. I find it beyond ridiculous that they need to learn 15 poems for one exam!! My daughter is autistic, puts a lot of pressure on herself and expects perfection. Has anyone got any tips of what she should be focusing on?? Good luck to all that are sitting the exam tomorrow!!

Ask again on the Secondary Education board and/or read the y11 thread there. Posts from MrsHamlet are particularly helpful wrt English.

At this stage I'd have thought it would be most helpful to reassure her that this exams doesn't define her worth or success. And making sure that she has some relaxation techniques for tonight before she goes to bed, and tomorrow before and during the exam to use as she needs.

She doesn’t need to learn 15 perfectly if it’s AQA - one will be be printed for her which should be a good prompt right in front of her for what she knows from class and her notes. Depending on what anthology she is doing, she should be able to do very well with a deeper knowledge/memory of 4-5 others that she can choose from to match with the topic/printed poem.

At this stage though just reassure her that she’ll be fine - poetry is only one small part of the whole thing and I bet she knows more than she thinks she does!
