Parents with identical twins (teenage), how do you…

Get Face ID on a phone to work? Does it work for you? I have one twin who can only open her own phone but the other twin can open both.

we also had the same issue in passport control and plane boarding. Dtd1 can be seen as either twin. Ended up with a whole security team rocking up to check our fraudulent boarding 🙄

Wow I don't know but that's fascinating how one can pass for both but not the other!!

WhamBamThankU · 19/05/2024 14:40

Could your twins use fingerprint to unlock instead if it's a privacy issue?

TeenLifeMum · 19/05/2024 17:33

@WhamBamThankU their finger prints can open each others phones 😂 they currently have iPhone 8s. Honestly, I don’t actually think they look that alike. Similar but I can tell them apart comfortably.

That's crazy 😂 sorry, that was my only advice!

Fingerprints aren't identical though, not even for ID twins. They are completely unique and random.

BusyCM · 19/05/2024 18:16

And why would the twin be trying to use her sister's passport and her own together? Surely they were using their own independent of one another. This thread makes no sense...

longdistanceclaraclara · 19/05/2024 18:16

Both of mine can open mine and open each others but I can't open theirs.

Google photos also gets very confused!

whyhavetheygotsomany · 19/05/2024 18:42

Yes mine can open each other phones but we have never had trouble at the airport even though it looks like the same photo on both.

But! But! But! It is one of the things that you are taught….. Even identical twins have different fingerprints!

I am shocked / horrified / confused / amused!

LightSpeeds · 19/05/2024 18:55

Ooooh, I don't know if mine can open each other's phones.... I will find out...

TeenLifeMum · 19/05/2024 18:55

@Mumofteenandtween my theory is they are similar and iPhones aren’t as clever as we thought.

Cuwins · 19/05/2024 19:11

My twin and I aren't sure if we are identical or not- we are in our 30's and people can comfortably tell us apart normally. However my face can open my sisters phone (not sure about the other way round as I only have fingerprint). Not fingerprints though

I’ve just had a lovely time googling. It seems that the chance of a false match is 1 in 50,000 per finger recorded. (So if you record all 10 then it is 1 in 5000.)

This compares with 1 in 64 billion for a proper police match.

Scary thought - with a world population of about 7 billion there are 140,000 people who can open your iPhone!

TeenLifeMum · 19/05/2024 19:45

Honestly, their faces broke Orlando airport’s face recognition boarding system! Identical twins aren’t that rare but you’d think they were the only ones to ever travel!

OP posts:
MaggieFS · 19/05/2024 20:05

Just reading because this is interesting... how did they break the system? Because it thought that it was one person who'd been through and was trying to get through again? I thought they weren't meant to store data and all that was needed was for the face to match the passport photo scanned at the machine.

BrownSauceOnBeans · 19/05/2024 20:29

My son can open my daughter’s iPhone, but not the other way round. They are 2.5 years apart…

mitogoshi · 19/05/2024 20:41

I managed to open my mums phone, I don't think we look that alike. I don't think the face recognition is that strong on phones

Freeasabird76 · 19/05/2024 20:43

My daughter can open my phone with face iD but I can't open hers.

Soubriquet · 19/05/2024 20:44

My two aren’t twins…but for some reason, 9year old ds can facial unlock his 11 year old sisters phone
