Would you be able to make a life for yourself,if you could go anywhere in the UK ,but knew no one there and if you couldn't work, because adult DC needs looking after .

No. But if I was leaving something bad, I could find community supports.

What's happening? Does adult DD get any benefits? Do you?

logicisall · 18/05/2024 22:36

£200k wouldn't go very far. Fully furnished rental, utilities, food, phone/tv/wifi, clothing, activities, transportation per annum. It would barely last four years.

Monstermunch2 · 18/05/2024 22:54

Yes both DC get benefits,,I probably could get pip if I applied.
But yes that's what I thought it's not enough money if I'm not working..
I don't know if I'm leaving something bad ,or if I'm the the something bad and Id be taking them away from their home .

You can’t live on that for a lifetime. If you are strategic in picking a location, you should be able to establish secure housing. You will need some sort of ongoing income though be it earnings or benefits.

Monstermunch2 · 18/05/2024 22:57

I wouldn't get child support as they are adults

PIP and carer's allowance?

RazzleDazzleEm · 18/05/2024 23:05

Yes definitely make that work, it's a lump sum most people won't see in their lifetime.
IF you can get other income, put some money in Investment savings you can cream the top off and keep your capital growing.

ArchaeoSpy · 18/05/2024 23:17

id make it work somehow

ZazieBeth · 18/05/2024 23:20

Depending on how many bedrooms you need, there’s places in Scotland you could probably just about make that work.

Buy house/flat outright, then max out allowed savings per person to have emergency funds and claim DC benefits/PIP/carer’s allowance.

It’d take some planning though and it wouldn’t be the easiest life.

Can you say a little more? You have income and could apply for more. With a lump sum you probably could make it work somewhere with cheaper housing costs.
