Northallerton Water Treatment Works

Hello

We're thinking of moving to Northallerton (North Yorkshire). We saw a property in the Romanby area recently and noticed a 'whiff' we suspected came from the local water treatment works (sewage).

Does anyone know if this is usual for the area?

Thanks in advance!

Jonty

Northallerton is lovely and not too far from me! Can’t say I’ve noticed a whiff though!

Thanks YaMuvva! We love Northallerton and the surrounding areas.

Does anyone have any experience of living near a water treatment works elsewhere?

Could it not be silage from the farms round there?

Water treatment works don't smell. Sewage treatment works do.

It's called a water treatment works but they definitely deal with sewage.

There's a sewage treatement works in our local town and it always smells.

It’s very unusually for something called a water treatment works to treat sewage….i used to work for a different water company and the two sides are kept very separate. Looking at their map they have two sewage treatment plants in Northallerton both slightly north of the football club, is it one of those?

ime sewage treatment works always smell but you get used to it. Ask locally on fb groups, etc.

There’s one on a walking route I do from home and at certain times it does whiff a bit, but there are fields on one side of it and the muck spreading the farmer does can smell much worse, plus I can smell it 2 miles away at home sometimes (but not the sewage works).
New estates built on the other side which never have a problem selling and there’s a static caravan/ lodge residential site that’s been there years right next to it - never heard of anyone there having a problem with it. Our local FB groups seem to get aerated about lots of things but never that Grin
I’d try and visit the area at different times of the day or ask on local FB groups if that’s not possible.

I work in Northallerton, including Romanby, and I haven't noticed anything?

Romanby itself is lovely, and Northallerton centre has some nice shops and restaurants.
The town is expanding rapidly though, with several new build estates getting built.

Are you familiar with the area? Thirsk is lovely, as is Richmond.

Thanks all. Yes, getting familiar with the surrounding areas.

Yes Cormorant - think they both might be sewage treatment plants looking on Google maps? Think I'll swing by another time and see if I can still smell anything.

Swung by the other day and didn't smell anything so I think it must have been a temporary blip! Walked past the treatment plants itself and only caught the slightest of smells, even with the wind blowing from it towards me.
