Hi,

All of my pre employment checks have been completed and I got an email from them saying congratulations here's your pension offer. I still haven't had a formal offer of a job so I can't hand my notice in. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, were you contacted soon after with a formal offer?

Civil Service HR has always been hopeless (mainly due to chronic staff shortages due to terrible pay) so it's likely its in the pipeline.

Have you spoken to your local line manager? They'll likely know that you do have a job and it's just the paperwork that needs sorting. When I joined 30 years ago, I'd been working with them for a week before I got my formal job offer - this was straight from school so I didn't have a job to leave, I'd verbally agreed a start date with the office I was working in and they told me just to turn up on 'Monday' and the rest would be sorted in time, which it was.

I know of numerous examples like the above, over the years, or you have people like you who understandably won't leave their current job without a formal job offer who wait weeks, if not months for HR to get their arse in gear.

I’m nhs but as a manager I have to chase recruitment every few days to ensure things are progressing. It drives me nuts! Get in touch with the manager who is employing you and let them know.

Elsie2019 · 18/05/2024 12:08

I have no idea who my local line manager is. I've only had contact via email with the people who do the pre employment checks. It's bizarre because the note in my portal says "We are reviewing the outcomes of your pre- employment checks.

We will contact you as soon as a decision has been made. Please do not resign from your current position at this time." Five minutes later via my emails I got this email

Dear Sharon,

Application ID number:

Congratulations on your recent offer to join the Civil Service.

A career in the Civil Service offers you a range of opportunities and benefits, including membership in the Civil Service pension scheme.

I'm pleased to inform you that you're eligible to join either:

the alpha scheme; or the partnership scheme

I assume I have a job. Lol

There may have been a contact on the original advert unless it was a bulk campaign, contact them or recruitment team and chase.

It was a bulk campaign. Does that make a difference to who I can contact?

Its unlikely to be a named individual as the vacancy holder on the advert. There should be a mailbox address even if it’s just Civil Service Recruitment but it’ll take longer to get a response.

You should get an offer shortly by the sounds of it well done!

Thank you. It's a brand new start for me as I'll be moving from Kent to Cardiff 😁 I need to give 4 weeks notice on my house and also work. I just wish I could do that now. Lol. Hopefully I'll have the offer on Monday 🤞🏻

There has very recently been a complete recruitment freeze, CS here. We had guidance on where you had to be in the process to halt or continue. Sorry I can't remember the details as it didn't apply to my team. I don't want to worry you but I would strongly advise contacting the person who interviewed you for clarification. Good luck

I was interviewed via a pre recorded interview process via teams. It wasn't a very personal process. They have just advertised for another 50 positions and according to the email that was sent about my pension, I have a job. I just need to know when I can start.

The guys in Basingstoke who run the Civil Service pension arrangements are one of the more efficient bits of the CS. I'd take it that you've got the job.

(BTW I know of one Naval officer who heard he'd been successful in joining the Royal Navy when a well-know tailors wrote to him about coming for fittings for his new uniform. The MOD told him about a week later.)

It's crazy that I got the pension email congratulating me last week and I only got the above email about my line manager contacting me today. Lol. I was a manager and all this is very back to front which has thrown me a little. I just want to be able to hand my notice in but obviously have to wait for my start date. That's a bit mad about the navy though. Lol

Thank you so much. They know that I have to give 4 weeks notice so I'm hoping they'll call me asap. I'm moving from Kent to Wales to start a new exciting adventure and this job is part of that 😊 I've worked for the NHS for the last 32 yrs so this is completely different.

Frustrated Head GIF

I'm in the same situation. My account on CS is showing as of today:

Application status: Pre-employment checks

We are reviewing the outcomes of your pre-employment checks.
We will contact you as soon as a decision has been made. Please do not resign from your current position at this time.

It's the waiting that is the frustrating part. Looks like all my checks have been done, but l keep thinking something is going to go wrong.

Just want to get a start date so l can hand in my notice
