Rumours for years but apparently now dna evidence https://www.buxtonadvertiser.co.uk/news/environment/derbyshire-big-cat-recent-sightings-in-the-county-as-dna-confirms-there-is-a-big-cat-in-the-uk-4633229

I wonder if this means there is a chance there is a small colony after all? Since the rumours go back decades.

Might need to start putting cat treats in my pocket next time I go on a late night walk through the woods

If you are on X/Twitter follow Angry People in Local Newspapers. He gets a lot of these stories.

It maybe the wine but I misread your post - I thought it said - partner loose in Derbyshire - oh well

dragonscannotswim · 17/05/2024 22:55

But if there had been big cats in the uk for decades, you'd find evidence of dead ones. And you never do...

This is a better article. The DNA was run at a University by a Professor and was found to contain DNA of a member of the panthera family. He's been running DNA on swabs for years and this is the first time there's been a positive result.

DNA confirms there IS a big cat roaming the British countryside

Panther loose in Derbyshire.
SabreIsMyFave · 17/05/2024 23:22

LOL @GordonBlue 😆 PETS!

To be fair, if I came face to face with a panther, I would still be less scared than if it was an XL Bully! 😬

I'd sooner be confronted by a panther than an angry chihuahua 😅 little landsharks!

Prawncow · 17/05/2024 23:48

It’s perfectly safe. As long as it stays north of Derby and Nottingham, no one will hurt it.

AllTipAndNoIceberg · 17/05/2024 23:50

I also thought it said partner. Collective delusion 😄

I did, as well! I was imagining maybe a stag do, which had got out of hand!

Only because the even bigger cats keep eating them 🤷🏻‍♀️

So did I! Assumed it was a stag do.

MrsJackThornton · 17/05/2024 23:56

Well then I guess the UK form of the current question will be: would you prefer to be lost in Derbyshire with a man or a panther...

BertieBotts · 17/05/2024 23:57

A MNer's partner, no less. Grin

TBF if there are big cats in the UK they are only there because they or their parents were pets.
