There used to be a lone bagpiper practiced on the sands when the tide was low at Lytham. I think that is an excellent place.

Does he just practice with the chanter at first?

Those pipes are LOUD. (Like wrap the needles to the max when broadcasting.) Wonderful though.

My school band used to play pieces to accompany a piper (rural Scotland).

The experience of rehearsing in a PE hall with a concert band and piper mean I class it as an 'outside only' instrument - beach/forest/up a hill...

Lord God, gracious and merciful, we pray for @Mummynextdoor in her time of need. Lord, give her strength and patience; may her neighbours find joy in the sound of bagpipes. We ask that dear son of MND finds comfort and purpose through the gift of music. Failing that, Father Almighty, we pray you guide DS of MND towards a quieter hobby. In Jesus' name, Amen.
